Hi everyone, I just got back from a local salvage yard that specializes in Toyota and Lexus parts, I was looking for parts for my girlfriends 91 camery. They had 5 Lexus LX450 rims in good condition, they guy wanted $300 for them. First can I fit these on my 1993 80, second is this a good deal ? I can probebly hagle him down to $275 should I do it ?

Probably but why? What year LX450 are they from?

I think the 93 uses a different type of lugnut from the later years but that just means you might need some new lugnuts.

If they are in good shape then I think it's a pretty good deal but I'm still not sure why you want them. Steel rims would be preferred for hard wheeling.

I actully have aluminum rims right now (all 1993-97 80's came with them) and I wheel them pretty hard no problems at all. I saw a 93-94 80 in Moab during cruisemaob 2004 with Lexus rims and it looked pretty cool, running the same tires as I MTR 285's. I just thought if it was good price , they look cool, why not. I will need to get some new tires soon and I figured I can put the Lexus rims on at the same time. I have over 50k on my MTR's and they still rock!! great tires.

sorry, they are off a white 95, it hurt me to see it all wrecked and deprived!!

So I think the only issue is that the lugnuts from your 93 won't work on a 95 rim. But that's no big deal, just track down some new/used lugnuts for a 95 rim. Dan can help with that.

But if your wheeling hard with MTRs, I'd go with steelies. Probably also worth checking that they aren't bent (if that's possible on an alloy rim). just my 0.2 cents.

Yeh, I agree steel rims would work better for wheeling, this would only be for looks. thanks for your advice. how do I check to see if they are bent ? should I just look at the outside ring to see if its bent ?

I think the best way to tell would be to spin them up on a balencing machine, but I understand that's gonna be difficult on used rims at a wrecker.

If they look good with no major dings (or not polished up) then they are probably fine. I think alloy rims will crack before they will bend (but I have heard of a shop that fixes bent alloys so it must be possible).

I'm no expert, so let's see if others can offer more advice.

there was no 95 lx450 in white or any other colour but whether it's a 96 or 97 i expect it will fit. the price sopunds good if the rims are in good shape

They will indeed fit. You will need to obtain the appropriate lug nuts to go with them. Your original lug nuts will not work with the later wheels.

Try to get the lug nuts along with the wheels if possible. A set of new lug nuts will crater your billfold.

Just wanted to add that proper lug nut torque on the LX450 alloy wheels are 76 ft/lbs.
Your old 91-94 alloy wheels are 109 ft/lbs.

Thanks for everone's input. I think I'm gonna do it. I think the salvage yard has the later style lugnuts since the wheels were on the truck. It will be a couple of weeks, I'll post some pics.

Yep, actually the '95 and later alloy wheels are all 76 ft/lbs due to the mag-style lugnut. The '93-'94's have the conical lugnut like steel wheels have, those are the 109 ft/lb. Don't expect any tire shop to know jack squat about that though, every one I've seen zips them down to 109 ft/lbs, but they can take it no problem, so no need to worry, but gives you a good bitching point if you want. I fought for months with Discount Tire about it, I don't think they ever changed their computers even after having their head tech guy for the whole company contact a Toyota master mechanic who read it out of the service manual...argh...

As CDan said, if you can get the lugnuts definetly do, even if you have to pay some for them, new lugnuts are about $4/each from CDan I think, from my Lexus dealership $12.50 (yes you heard that right!) $12.50 EACH!! Most people wouldn't think the old lugnuts are worth much, so grab them if you can!!

Navid,
Welcome to the board :flipoff2:

Nothing really for me to add...it's already been covered -- they'll fit and yeah, get those lug nuts. Last time I checked Lexus wanted about $4 each for them.

Which salvage yard did you hit? Just curious...was it in the bay area?

Hi Doug,
the place is called California Auto Dismantle, its in Vallejo, about an hours drive from me. The place is like a candy store.

If you are going to get rid of your old Cruiser wheels I'd be interested. I'd like to get my 91 and 94 to having the same wheels so I can swap tires back and forth if I need too.

Hi Eric,
Sure, I was gonna keep them and put 35's on them for hardcore wheeling like the Rubicon, it I ever make it ! I am in Northern California, in the Bay Area, PM me if your still intreasted.

Thanks
