I searched for the answer, but did not dig up anything.

In my 94 owner's manual, there is a pic and a brief description for this. It is like the tonneau cover for the rear storage area....I had them inside both of my 4Runners....You know, the retractable cover that works like a window shade and hooks to the rear to cover up the rear storage area....

I have never heard of anyone having one in their 80.......Are there any out there?

Have never seen that for an 80. Maybe some place like performance products would carry one etc. What you may have seen referred to in your owners manual is the web gear hammock thing.

There was one, but not offered in the U.S. market. I recall some guys on the 80scool email list locating some and installing a couple years ago. I don't recall if they were sourced from Japan, Australia, or somewhere else.

I remember there was some cutting/hacking/bolting as part of the installation process. Once completed, it looked good, but seemed to be more work than it was worth.

I'll look for the links with write-ups and will update if I can find them -- the birfield site seems to be down...and searching on yahoo just sucks.

My 4Runners also had the web thing, but that is not in the 94 LC manual. It does show tie-down hook locations (i haven't looked under the husky to see if they are there) ...but the manual does show the retractable cover as well. I'm using a pet/style barrier to keep things from flying around, but I do like just covering up everything to keep it out of sight.

it may have not been available on US specs, or ones that came with 3rd row?

We crossed paths, Doug. Thanks for the info. More wondering out loud than actively seeking one. Sounds difficult to get, probably more hassle and $ than what it is worth.

It was available as an accessory from the dealer. The parts needed to be ordered separately - the cover, hooks, and latch. Some one from LSLC actually installed one in his 80.

hmmmm...

well okay, dealer accessory then.

I thought it was a foreign market (non-US) thing.
Good to know.

They are very expensive and I remember what Doug did about the cutting/hacking. As I recall, the guys that put them in were spending around $500 after everything was said and done.

Wouldn't you just rather have the drawer system? Just 02.

I would rather have the drawer system, and probably will eventually......I was thinking low-buck temp stop-gap measure for :princess: mall-package type stuff, too big for drawers.

Save your pennies, get the drawer system. You won't be disappointed.

Generally those pull cover dealos are to prevent the thieving eye from seeing your stash. Sort of pointless with 80/20 tented glass. ;p

Conflicts with third row seats. The inner quarter trim panels are also different. THey have moulded cutouts for the mounting of the cover.

Thanks Dan.....need new inner quarters adds significant $$ to the project I guess, which may help explain the $500 range.....I think the 4Runner ones were add ons to the quarters, although I would imagine there was some bracketry behind them as well...

Just a thought.....Thanks everyone

The 500 dollar figure would not include the quarter trim panels. The retractor alone is north of 350 bucks.

Make that 80/20 glass and four or more inches of lift!!! That totally eliminates half the average height theives out there unless they walk tall like reffug in which case they cant steal anything cause they are too busy scoping out your rusting roof rack nutserts!!! :flipoff2:

I had one but it was replaced by a bed. I think those things are stupid in any case. Heavy tint does the job as well and if it's the 3M magic tint, it's the best of all worlds.

I removed the bed too. Didn't have enough need for it, but didn't throw it away. I'll re-install it for the next time I camp.

a freind ordered one thru the local dealer, he modified the panels to work, think it was like $200 for the cover.

they were standard in some markets if no 3rd rown seats.
