Loud screech at max acceleration...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it's the belts...

There was a thread about something similar on here recently, you should check it out - maybe there is some helpful advice in there. Lemme see if I can dig up the link for you...here you go. Seems like people might have thought it was the belts.

It has to be the belts. Go to your local parts store and get a belt shrinker machine, that should make them tighter and not squeal. If they still squeal, rub a little peanut butter on them, works awesome.

So I was coming back from a date with my wife and I hit the gas to pass one of the many turtle speed drivers here in Guam and a loud SCREECH was heard coming from what seemed to be my front end area. What in the world could that be? I was able to reproduce it two more times then I got a little worried I was doing some serious damage. It was only when the tranny shifted out of D to 2nd and only for a few seconds then it was gone. Any thoughts?

Did it sound like some kind of metallic screech? Sort of like metal failure? Output splines?

Turn up the stereo, it will go away:hhmm::D:meh:

Unless you're listening to some screechy music:hillbilly:

I found a combination of Cyndi Lauper and Chisse Hyndes will adsorb squealing noises @ high decibels. HOWEVER your still battling the lessor of evils. ;P

IIRC belts are are still cheaper than either of their box sets. :flipoff2:;)

I'm glad everyone is having fun  and thanks for the input :flipoff2:

so...

was it the belts?

If it were a 40 series, you wouldn't even be able to hear it, I'd just ignore it...

But it sounds like the belts to me.

Your driving a 40 in Guam and it has not rusted through? Do you know Robert Balajadia at Industrial Arts guy at GCC or his ex Polli? He is a Chamorro relative of mine. He used to have a couple of 40's. Their boys (Galen and Beau) just passed through town (Phoenix) last week on the way to Florida. Guam is a small place say hello to him from his Cunyo in Arizona.

That noise...
It could be a boonie dog caught in the running gear or a chicken.

I'd rather be eating blue parrot fish kelaguen with red rice and finnadeni.

My belts squealed on start-up also. Are yours doing this?

Just to add another idea, my truck "whistles" under acceleration. I believe this is caused by a vacuum leak somewhere. Mine is very subtle, but it is conceivable that a more severe intake or vacuum leak could create the sound you are hearing. Maybe not, but replace/adjust your belts and see what happens.

OMG, an 80 whistling under acceleration. We may need a whole new thread for that one.:hhmm:

What Rob meant to say is that the (fzj) 80 factory exhaust system whistles under acceleration normally. Some trucks more than others.

You're no fun;p

What I meant to say was that this is a whole different issue. It needs a new thread so we can obsess about it for three days before arriving at a completely obvious solution.

'course I'm still scratching my chin with regard to "max acceleration" and "landcruiser"........in the same thread
