You're no fun;p

What I meant to say was that this is a whole different issue. It needs a new thread so we can obsess about it for three days before arriving at a completely obvious solution.

Which solution would be...?

Inquiring minds want to know! :D

Mine was making a weird noise like that since labor day when I was turtled on a rock and had to get pulled off by a heep. It made the noise under heavy acceleration from the front driveshaft or diff area. The noise was more like a dry metal on metal slipping sound. I thought it was from getting stuck.
The last wheelin trip I went on 3 weeks ago to Big Bear I noticed my belts were cracked so I brought my new belts along. After a stop at the gas station my belts started screeching at start up but didnt bother to check em. After about 10 miles on the trail it started screeching climbing a hill. After inspecting it, one of my alt. belts was gone and the other was split, the ac belt was still good. So I replaced all 3 on the trail with factory belts, dont know if that was the source of the sound, but it hasnt made it since.:D Soo check yer belts.

I don't think it is neccesary to change the belts - I would try just changing the belt oil with fresh synthetic BLTW-30...works great for me when the belt oil viscosity breaks down:grinpimp:

I've actually had this problem on my M3 - turns out it wasn't the belts, just the passenger. :flipoff2:

With the cruiser I don't think that's the issue though:hmm:

I'd check the passenger seat for discoloration just in case...

I haven't tighten anything up yet but I also haven't punched it since that night and I think I'll just fade into the local driving style and chill the heck out. I did reaplace the AC belt with an after market one about 5 months ago, but it hasn't made a peep since that night. And fumann, this is a random question and I am being totally sincere, but did your mom come visit you in early March, because I sat next to a really nice lady when I was flying back on leave for 3 weeks. We were in first class together on the front row and it was a red-eye flight from Hawaii to LA and she said she was flying to visit her son in Pheonix? If so, it is a small world. I am really enjoying Guam and I haven't seen any 40's out yet at Channel 10, but if I do I'll be sure to strike up a conversation. And yes I do have some rust, but not too bad, and I'm trying to thoroughly address it one section at a time. This island is so hard on vehicles. Worse than the roads up North!

Not me I'm afraid. I'm not from Guam. I've been there and it was a kick. Anyway, Check out my friend Mona's Surf shop - Primo Surf, and Kings Restaurant for some great spam-fried rice !

Kings is like the island style Denny's...and I have an 80 fumann not a 40...Its crazy the love of spam here...so to send this thread off in style I will say this: I do not own a ferrari, I will not floor my gas petal, and thus I will not hear any more screeching. Under all other conditions there is absolutely no belt sounds. Problem solved and thanks to all. Next is a 1'' 4crawler body lift, some custom tube rear bumperettes, and then sliders. Well I should be getting a 54mm hub socket in soon from Man-a-fre and I already have the birf DVD and all the goodies for a simple hub repack so maybe I'll start there. I'm positive my preload is off because the trucks pulling right and I've got play from 6 to 12 left and right (more so on the right). Only 63,000 miles on the odometer but Micronesia rides em' hard and puts em' up wet...

In all honesty, you should check the belts anyway, to make sure they're the problem and not a bearing or drive flange or something else. Also, although I don't have any proof, I'd guess that loose belts might generate some added heat and friction, which wouldn't be good for the belts or bearings in itself. A belt check might take all of 2 minutes- reach in there and deflect the belts at their longest run. More than a half-inch of deflection or so means they should be tightened. Of course, that somewhat depends on how much force you use, so you'll have to use your best judgment on that.

BTW, you took this thread in great humor, here's to ya. :D

I know awakening dead threads is like an ugly zombie that needs to be put down but I just had to update. AC belt had too much play and I tightened it up. Put the peddle to the floor like an idiot one more time and had no more screech. Screech = belts...I think that was mentioned once or twice in this thread :D.

so what was the fix??
