I bought a cheapo Amazon snorkel kit a couple years ago and never got around to putting it on. Now I have worked up the nerve to drill the fender but I cant find the template. Any ideas how to get this right the first time?

step 1 Toss the template

Step 2 Make one out of cardboard or other material

Step 3 Measure

Step 4 Measure

drink a few beers and drill!

That's what I was thinking (especially the beers). But How do you get the bend lined up with where the hood meets the A-pillar?

I bought the same amazon special. What I did was inserted the bolts on the snorkel and used them to punch holes into a big sheet of cardboard. Then I used a marker and outlined the snorkel. I cut the outline out, and enlarged the holes to give me some wiggle room. Taped up the car with masking tape. Placed the cardboard on the tape and transferred the markings when I thought it lined up best. Checked it a few times and then drilled it. If I had to do it again I wouldn't do the two holes closest to the mirror on the fender. My big a$$ hands couldn't reach it and I never installed the bolts.

Good Luck!

My template was way off. I eyeballed the big hole, cut it small, eyeballed through the cut hole and trimmed. Put the hose on and then I took a bolt and cut the head off and ground it to a point. I then put the sharpened bolt in the hole farthest from the hose and pressed it to the body, it leaves a nice little dimple to drill. Then move the sharpened bolt to another hole and install a bolt the has the head cut off into the hole you just drilled, so on and so forth. My cruiser had just been painted by the previous owner and was without blemish. My wife nearly hurled when I showed her the hole I plasma cut in the perfect fender.

When I got all the hole cut/drilled I did paint around each.

Sorry, couldn't figure out how to resize.

Make your own using a paper floor mat or sumthin similar

Thick enough not to tear, thin and pliable enough so that you won't need to compensate

Use the studs on the snorkel itself to hold it in place

When you drill the big hole, use an oversized 4" hole saw

This will give you a little more clearance to work with cause if you start with a hole that's the same size and don't get it spot on, yer gunna butcher the hole trying to make it bigger

Once you have the big pecker in the hole, position the dorkel so that it matches the lines and tape the template in place.

Mark and drill the smaller holes in the template

Once the holes are drilled, put the studs in place and make sure they line up.

If they don't use a step drill and enlarge each hole one step at a time until it drops into place (the fender washers will make up for the oversized holes)

I used a piece of door edge trim to cover up the sharp edges of the large hole.
