I recently acquired a 2015 200 series that came with one key fob when I bought it. I was out running a quick errand last night and I realized I'd left my key at home. While scratching my head wondering how I'd made it to where I was without the key, I got back in the truck, pushed the start button, and it fired right up. The only thing I can think of is that there is another key fob somewhere in the truck. My question is, will a dealership have a smart way to find it, or should I start pulling seats out so I can have a good look under there?

does your vehicle have some aftermarket remote start? there are some out there that require a donor fob... though it begets the question if your fob actually allows you to lock the doors?

With your one key placed in a safe spot away and out of range of the vehicle (like inside the house or further) - can you use the door button lock to lock the vehicle? If not, then I would say it's a lost fob inside.... the vehicle should not let you lock with the door pushbuttons if there is a fob still inside.

if it does allow the push-button lock, then it might be a donor fob for an after-market remote starter. might be worth the dollars to reprogram your keys - you don't know who else might have access to your programming.

Good point, no aftermarket remote starter. I can use the fob to lock the doors but I haven't been able to lock the doors using the door lock button. I hadn't really considered the cause until now and planned to tackle that issue down the road.

I would check under the front seats, you can occasionally manipulate your hands to find this crevice (seems it is near the outboard seat track you may have to unbolt the seats), however there is spot that a key and other things find when items slide off the console.

I would check that first.

There was a similar thread on this last year but I can't remember how that one played out. Anyways, as already stated above I'd check under the carpet below the drivers seat first. There is an opening in there that loves to eat things. Unfortunately there is no easy button way to locate it.

Yep, probably under the drivers seat behind the event horizon of the black hole down there.

I found all kinds of change and lost Costco cards there from the PO.

Raise the seat to max height then slide completely forward and it gives you fairly decent access to the area under the seat. I have retrieved a french fry and an M&M or two that way.
Not sure why it didn’t occur to me to lift the seat but that was the ticket! I must have run my fingers over it 10 times but it was stuck to the floor. Once I raised the seat I was able to get a flashlight under there and the fob was right there under the carpet on the passenger side.

Thanks everyone!

THIS. I once dropped my fob in the gap between the drivers seat and center console. There is a opening in the carpet down there and of course my fob found it. I tried fishing it out and just pushed it further into the abyss. Although while trying to get it out I retrieved so many other things from the previous owner... raffle tickets, a note from his girlfriend/wife, a couple of vape cartridges, a set of airpods with the case. 😂 As for my fob, I ended up having to have the seat pulled to get it out.

Awesome, now go order some new shells from @yotaMd and get rid of whatever nasties are on that one. For me, I got hi-viz orange… just in case.

I lost a fob in my house. Every once in a while I’d get this issue where my truck wouldn’t lock using the button. Or I’d get random low battery warnings, when I knew the battery in the fob was fresh.

Eventually I found the lost fob in an inner pocket of a backpack I use infrequently.

Never did put it together until I found the fob.
