I've had a few FJ80's and one FJ60 but never a 100 series and I have a couple questions. I found a 1999 with rear locker, tan leather, same owner since 90,000 miles, no mods, timing belt, water pump, tune up, new radiator, transmission serviced, and fluids flushed at 135,000 miles at local Toyota dealer. Tires are decent, maybe another 20,000 miles left on them. I drove it today and checked everything out and it runs great, locked the locker in and no problems, seats are worn in the front and middle row is a little worn, no tears or holes, just cracked, 3rd row looks new. Paint is good with a scratch and a ding here and there. Checked the service record on Toyota Owners and it's been service regular. I've got him down to $8400 so I think the price is good but I'm curious if there's anything else I need to look at? I've attached a pic and I appreciate any feedback.

I'd say get it checked out by a mechanic, check for rust and if l good, price seems right. But you didn't mention current mileage.

What about starter replacement? That is a known issue.
Otherwise go for it. The MY99 is mechanically very reliable. Looks nice too.

155,000 miles but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I hate the fact that the interior is worn more than what I consider normal. Getting into redoing the front and middle seats back in leather is not cheap. I had thought seriously about buying it and keeping my 2002 double cab Taco but I've got 5 cars on my insurance already so I think I'm going to hold off. One of my sons graduates college this spring and as soon as he gets a job, I'll be able to stick another car on. I just got my Taco the way I want it and seems stupid to sell it at this point, not to mention, I love driving it. I really appreciate the responses but looks like I'm going to stick the 100 series back on the back burner for 5 or 6 months.

As far as starter, it has not been replaced. Can you give me some more info on the starter, like how long they normally last?

Thanks..............10ga

Price is pretty good for 155k. Regrading the leather, it is a 15 year old vehicle, so wear may be typical of something that age. Regardless, I believe my local shop charges $1k for a Katzkin, or you can order it yourself for cheaper. This guy did it for his 4Runner:

Taco is a great rig. I have had a 2002 Double Cab and a 2000 Ext Cab. I do miss the truck bed, but that's about the only thing I miss. The 100 is 100x more comfortable and for what I do, just as capable.

Regarding starters, I am on my original and I've got 160k miles. I'll probably be replacing it soon.

Can you tell me about what the cost is to replace the starter? Thanks for the tip on the Katzkin

I looked up some videos and that has to be the dumbest placement of a starter ever. Now I see why it's something to be concerned about. I guess it no worse than what you have to do to replace the valve cover gaskets on a 3.4 Tacoma. Thanks for the info

My starter was replaced with a new one at 120K miles.
I was having problems starting intermittently at that point.

I had my PM timing belt and water pump done at the same time.
The "starter" part of the bill including labor was around $800, and the TB+WP was another $800. I probably overpaid though. It wasnt a DIY job for me.

It wouldn't be for me either. I had a hard time putting model cars together when I was a kid.......LOL The more I think about it, the more I'm glad I've decided against this one. I hate those factory fender flares. I was looking at some other member's Cruisers tonight, like Schwein;s cruiser, and they look so much better without the flares. It's personal preference but I might as well get what I want because I'll be keeping it for several years. Not to mention I really want to keep my Taco as my DD so it's going to be at least July before I get another kid off my insurance policy. After that, I'm going to get serious finding one. Again, thanks everyone for your advice and feedback, it's much appreciated.
