I'm considering getting a 100, or gx470 for my wife. What are the major mechanical issues to look for, and at what mileage? If it has a tow package, would it be able to pull my 77 on a flatbed? If not, what would be required to make it comfortable to do so. I'm not looking to off road the truck too much if at all, at least for the near future (I know what happens when you say, it's just a daily). Thank you all for your input.

Well, for the most part. The mechanical issues that you speak of depends on the service history & how well the vehicle had been maintained by the previous owners!! I don't personally have much experience towing w/ my LC. But ive seen people tow there 18-20ft boats with them. So, there again. It would probably depend on how well the tranny & such has been maintained.... But, If you did a search on here. Im sure there are many of threads with people talking about pulling w/ there LC's...

Here is a good place to start!!
Towing with your LX470 or LC with AHC

I think the 100's have their limits as far as towing... it is small V8 as V8's go 4.7 like 280ci I pull my 21.5 ft ski boat with it with no problems... but I think for me that is the limit... I moved my bobcat on it's trailer down the road with it... but I believe that was way past it limits

Unless I get a ultralight trailer with brakes, I'd imagine my 77 would be pushing the limits of the towing ability. I'll do more more digging.... With your boat do you see transmission issues during long distances?

I don't pull this boat far as it mostly stays at the lake house... pull it back to town if I want to work on it... I did have a smaller 18ft ski boat that we'd pull a couple hundred miles at a time... and really didn't know it was there and still got the same 14-15mpg on the road
