I am new to the 60 series Land Cruisers. Would apprecaite any help with specific areas to look for rust that might not be obvious. Other than rust what are other considerations that I should be aware of that are typical pablems of the 60 series? I appreciate any help you folks can offer. Thanks!!!

As with any old vehicle....you will find rust unless you purchase out of the southwest or somewhere that doesn't use salt on the roads or close to the ocean. 60/62's front fenders, rear fenders boxed sections of the frame over the rear axle, and last but not least, the upper rear shock mount.

Of course, TLC's can be a little over priced, so I would suggest looking for a good price that you can repair. That's what I did, but I can do 99% of the work myself.

I have looked at a 60, not sure of the year, that has a great body and frame. Only rust that I could find is on the lower tailgate. Even has a/c. The motor was in the process of being replaced(for the last 5 yrs).

Down side is that I don't know how much he wants for it. He also has two 60's for parts, he wants to make a package deal.

If you are serious, I can get you a price and some picks of all three and email them to you. If you like'em I'll forward his number to you.

I didn't buy them, because I wanted his fj55, but it needed too much work. I couldn't decide between a 40 or a 55.....I'm looking for a 40 now.

Let me know what you think.

How pretty do you want it to be? Is it gonna be a trial rig, or a daily driver.
I bought mine with quite a bit of rust, but my biggest concern with the rust was the frame and mouting points etc. I looked pretty closely at these spots.
Mine had rust, but it was isolated to the surface on the frame, in other words, there were no HOLES anywhere in the frame itself from rust. Look at the condition of the motor mounts, the shackle welds etc.
My rig is for off road only, so the body panels didnt really matter to me that much...Ill repair those as I go along.
For 2500 bucks...my 62 was a steal for what I use it for.
The 60 series rigs are awsome! IMHO, youre making a GREAT decision to get one.
BTW, rust free as possible is the best bet!
