Apparently alls hops are out of OME torsion bars for a while

Does anyone know of any other bars out there available to purchase
I know of iron Man at Metal Tech but are there any other choices out there available

Any shop owners have any

Thanks

I got my TJM bars from Just Differentials. Quick and knowledgeable service.

I was contemplating on a set of the OME but I do not have any extra weight up front yet. How is the ride now? Is it doable with the stock torsion bars?

I have them cranked a bit now
I have 860s in the rear

I talked to a toyota shop today and theymentioned to just re index the stock torsion bars

This may be ok around town but it would worry me and I also want them to work off road as well

Thoughts on this

Ya you'll need aftermarket torsion bars if you're goung to have weight up front especially if you plan on some moderate off roading. I installed a pair of OME bars premature and realized I didnt need them until i put more weight up front.

Too rough? Was this with the Fox installed?

If you go to Ironman 4x4 America | Off-Roading Truck Equipment and Accessories

You can order them at a 5% discount, and shipping is flat fee @ 19.95 on anything under $799. Free over $800

I added bumper & winch, & just ordered their TBs and reinforcing brackets.

TJM, OME, Ironman I am guessing probably come from the same manufacturing source and are rebadged. It would be an interesting cross reference to measure the diameter of the 3 different bars and compare.

Can't go wrong with the IronMan TBs. I have them - along with IronMan coils and foam cell shocks. I've got a Dissent Offroad front bumper (a bit lighter than the ARB/TJM/IronMan bumper) and a Warn 9.5ti winch. I'd say the ride is firm but not stiff - less brake dive than stock, but still very comfortable.

@ton504 I wouldn't say too rough. It just added un-needed stiffness to the front end. I realized after the fact that (like people warned me before doing) cranking down my stock torsions or re-indexing my OEM torsions, would have achieved the same result with less a more comfortable ride. Now, that I'm in the process of putting on an aftermarket bumper and winch it's all good. My point is, don't waste your money or time installing aftermarket torsion bars until you put added weight up front. You just don't need them.

Yes, the Fox shocks were installed at the same time. I don't think that did anything to help the situation though.

I really liked my Sway Away Torsion Bars when I had them. A bit higher on the price spectrum but they worked well.

What are the OEM's rated weight? If i were to get Dissent bumper and a Smitty winch. Would that be too much. And 285 tires at about 60lbs; not sure they factor in?

Rough guess:
Dissent bumper: 90lbs
Winch: 100lbs
Tires: 60lbs

Tires are unsprung weight. I don't know of any published spec for the OEM Tbar load capacity, others probably do. However, for ride quality, you don't want to max out the tbars.

I have sway away torsion bars. I ordered some Old man Emu from a Amazon site and they sent me the Sway away ones. My original instinct was to return them, but after research I learned that they are the slightly thicker than old man and I liked that they were painted gloss red. I have had them installed for about 5 months now and have no complaints. I have a Slee Blueberry Front bumper with a Warm 8k winch so
I carry some weight. I have them cranked pretty well so the ride is still. But I preffer the level look to the stink bug look.

Thanks for this. I'm still running OEM TBs but the ride is a touch harsh with a Slee Blueberry and a 12k Engo winch up front. Not sure if I should replace the OEM TBs with this setup or not.

How's your ride with the aftermarket?

Buc

Removing the stock bumper subtracts -30 lbs +\- . The dissent bumper with out stinger or hoop is about 90 lbs I think, so net gain is about 60 lbs.

Gross weight of the Winch with 2awg wiring, control box, hawse and syn rope. 90-100lbs +\-

150-160 lbs net add with out second battery (should you go that route.)

At 167k miles on my stock TBs on with the above set up dropped the front about 1/2 inch. It seems to drive and ride fine for street use but there isn't much spring rate left to absorb big hits, whoops. IMO keeping stock TBs is not a long term solution. I have not bothered twisting the TBs either. I just ordered ironman TBs to compensate for the added front end weight, and the future addition of skid plate, and sliders.

As I was writing this ups show up with the goods. FWIW I put a caliper on the new TBs and they measured on average + 3.25mm (bigger diameter) than the oem.

It rides firm. But its not bad. The car stock rode like a Cadillac! Its a little stiff going over speed bumps, but I do keep my tires at 40 PSI, I guess I could go lower to compensate.
