I’ve searched and not yet found any tech about upgrading the lockout/drive flange studs on a 40/60/mini truck front hub.

I’d like to do this, but wonder what people have done for reaming the cone washer taper for the mod.

I’m using an fj62 front axle until I can build a Ford 9”/80 knuckle hybrid.

And it seems I likely misplaced the hub bodies. Crap!

Ok, so a quick call to Cruiser Outfitters and Bryce gave me the info I needed.

I happened to find a 10 x 1.25 tap in my toolbox that will do the trick.

I’m also installing 9/16” studs in the front to match the rear 14b hub studs. I can get lug nuts at any junkyard anywhere in the country if I loose any.

The hardest part of adding the larger studs is finding the correct size drill bit and reamer for the studs. The studs I found with my local NAPA are the same configuration as the stock ones, but larger and 1/4” longer. I found a .608” reamer in the machine shop cabinet at work today and the shoulder on the studs is .605”. The knurl is .625”. Will this be a tight enough press fit?

Hmmm. Have you ever read my article about engineering the weak link? Upgrading your studs ensures that the next failure point will be more difficult to access and more expensive to replace.

Again its for FF rear, but they get more abuse than a front lock out. I think the most common upgrade for the lockout is adding pins and ARP studs.
