I recently finished working on several little projects for my 81 FJ 60. New clutch, brakes, seals/ gaskets. Mechanically its running well. I am just curious where to start next. Needs body work, and interior but that's not my biggest concern at this time. What I am wanting to know is, what fixes or replacements are going to be the most beneficial to the reconstruction of TLC. Keep in mind it is bone stock, no lifts or after market. I have been scouring post on site and to be honest I am overwhelmed. Any information would sure be helpful.

Congratulations on getting your LC running good. I think the answer to your question would require you to define what a "reconstructed TLC" means. Are you hoping to make it completely factory? Are you going to use it as an expedition vehicle? Rock crawler? Etc. Good luck with your build. This forum is packed with good info and friendly/knowledgeable members.

Should have been more specific... I am looking for light off road vehicle nothing crazy. Just a good all purpose hunting, fishing, camping vehicle. I am looking for some cool facto too. So what are some upgrades to start with.. Are there any parts that are a must have for the 60's. Are there any parts on a factory 60 that are prone for failure.

First off welcome to the addiction :flipoff2: <---- official MUD welcome

Take a look in the FAQ section for the "Best mods under $50" as that should give you a good start on what things you can start doing.

From there I would worry about all the maintenance items, change ALL fluids, check for leaks, change out brittle items like vacuum lines, belts, etc., then from there you can start working on things like SLCFJ62s Wiring Harness/Headlight harness upgrade, doing a desmog (if applicable in your county/state), repairing others items, and what not. Since you are looking at using it as a light expedition/trail vehicle (basic use of mine) you might want to entertain a small lift (2") or doing an Add-A-Leaf with new shocks and bushings.

Also, one of the major items that it seems all our cruisers need is the knuckle rebuild, this is well documented and lots of vendors have the kits needed. Where you can go with TOYOTA OEM products (these can be bought through some of our vendor members here like Beno, Sam Stewart, D'Animal at a discounted price or through places like ToyotaPartsOverstock.com).

Most of all, have fun with the truck, listen to her, get to know her well and she will take great care of you. Mine was pretty neglected now that I am realizing it but she has been good to me since I picked her up. YOu make the investment (time and money) on these trucks and they will easily last you 300k+.
