Looking for opinions and experiences with an oculus system, Hey guys, I am considering buying an oculus VR headset for my sister who is terminally ill in the hospital. Does that thing actually work? And what programs are good for it or not? I do appreciate anybody’s input. I always intended to take my sister snorkeling but I don’t think that’s ever going to happen. This may be as good as I get.

I have a set up, it’s one of the original developer set ups they got it quite a long time ago. I can’t speak for the new ones, but the old ones are pretty sweet. You’ll get a couple of hours enjoyment out of it, then the novelty will start to wear off. When I get moved into my new place I’m going to get it set up in the garage for people to use. It’s a fun thing at a party to laugh at someone with them on, especially if they are afraid of things like roller coasters and jump scares

My friend has a new-ish one and it was fun, but like jamesurq said it wore off quickly for me. Partly because I start to feel queasy using it, which apparently is a common thing for some people. I only used it for about 10 minutes, and the thrill wore off for me, but I only had a couple of simple games to choose from too. Maybe if there were 3d movies you could play through them?

Over the lockdown stage of the pandemic I bought myself and my 75 year old father a pair of Oculus Quest 2s so we could play as he was stuck at home. We found a ping pong game that had very realistic physics and still play each other regularly. The games are hit and miss, but when its done well it can be very fun. The advantage of the Quest over the Rift is that it only requires a phone (to get connected initially, then only requires a wifi connection to play) and it is entirely wireless.
