Hey guys,

I am actively looking for a 40 series project. By project I mean a cheap cruiser that most everyone else would take a pass on (<$1000). I don't even need the engine or tranny in it. The only thing I am concerned with is that the chassis is rot free. I am not afraid of body panel rust since I plan to hone my sheet metal skills on this rig (bending, forming & fabrication).

My wife is not on board with this so I may have to do some horse trading for it to keep her appeased. (guns, ammo, magazines, welding machine, welding work, etc.). :bang:

Many thanks, Ed

Thanks Dave. Too bad it wasn't closer (it just sold). $1500 is a killer deal.

Theres a guy on e-bay on his 3rd time listed. white 40 south of Dallas. I think if you called and offered him 500 cash he would take it. It keeps getting bid up and the buyer backs out. Mike

Its the one in Mineola, 1700 was his high bid but no one followed through with the sale. Its better than the other ones but not worth 17oo. MIke

Thanks guys.

I talked to the guy with the white cruiser and he said he just wanted to get rid of it. I offered to come and get it this weekend, but he wants the ebay listing to run its course.

The red topless 1972 is up by Lake Travis. I looked at it and the sheet metal isn't too bad. The problem is that the frame is broken in two (and missing over 1' of steel) on the driver's side right where it curves up for the rear axle clearance. If I could find another frame, this wouldn't be a bad candidate.

I look everywhere for a neglected or abandoned 40 that someone just wants to dump. I know that they're out there. This cool thread gave me some more inspiration: https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/509485-yard-find-2.html

I have an extra frame... no title on it though..

Thanks, I may take you up on that. I'll be calling the Lake Travis guy again to see if he'll haggle at all.

IIRC he decided to keep it.

Good luck finding a "yard find" that guy hit it out of the park!

This guy is motivated to sell. He said something about selling it in order to buy his daughter a car. It still might be out of your price range, but you never know until you ask.

Somewhat overpriced with no hard top or doors, but otherwise looks solid. Last year of 16 gauge sheet metal too. Maybe a $6K truck?

I sent him an email to see if he'd be open to trade for my SOA FJ40. I told him I wanted a more closer to stock truck, but he is looking to sell it in order to fund his kid's car, but said he'd give someone a good deal.
