Just had the truck I've been building to be my forever truck stolen last week (stolen 62) and need to start over as now I have nothing to drive. I honestly can't afford much, maybe up to 5k.
I've decided to go with an 80 this time, will probably end up doing some of the things I did with my 62, like a 5.3 swap, mild lift, stuff like that. I think the best years for a swap from my quick reading is the 93-95 obd-I trucks, correct me if I'm wrong.
I of course would love lockers, but doubt I can get them at the price range I am looking at. I am mostly interested in a truck that I can get by with driving for a year or maybe two until I can get enough space again to really tear into it. I also want to make sure it is as rust free as possible. Not afraid to tear into maintenance issues, but I need it to at least drive for a year or two, so no head gasket failures or things of that nature, but I'm not afraid of high mileage either.
