Hi...newbie with my new to me 1994 LC...formerly of the Land Rover Defender world...
can someone educate me on the center console configurations? What are those four u shaped
metal tabs on the slanted front part? And do any later models of the 80 series come with higher
armrest lids that I might look for to swap out the stock one in my vehicle? Mine doesnt not come up high enough to be called an armrest :)
thanks in advance

They're coin holders. Most people replace them with USB connectors.

All the leather interior fitted models have an additional "top" on the center console, giving you two storage compartments, with an additional raised leather covered armrest.

hahaha....never woulda guessed coin holders...thanks! And, the Range Rover idea is quite tempting, but hopefully there might be a stock solution I havent seen yet...it is now winter (freezing) here in Chicago and limits my energy for doing any larger construction project outside...but thanks very much for posting a really cool idea!

Wasn’t there a Volvo console lid from a v70 that fit?

There is no factory armrest offered for the 80 series. Either the seat has to to swapped and/or something custom fabricated.

Not quite OEM, but a Tuffy locking console can be positioned to act as a good armrest (I needed ths badly due to a bad shoulder), plus gives lots of secure storage, maybe even a place for a radio if that's needed.

Who puts an armrest so far away from the actual seat.. so stupid.

I suspect it's only "so far away from the actual seat" because of the emergency brake. It's weak, but I like having it handy and beats putting it someplace stupid like on the left kick panel or as an underdash lever.

Im wrapping up a tuffy install right now, its far and away better tha stock console

This is how my Tuffy looked when done.

Just saw this, just a button to turn E-brake on and off there expensive but could solve console/armrest problems: Emergency Brake | Paramount | E-Stopp Corporation not sure I would spend the $, but its nice to know I could if I wanted a armrest really bad.....

Wrong, there is a factory padded armrest. It looks like this:

this is a tuffy installed far better than stock but it need a better interior. its just a big cavernous metal box. Im fabbing up some inserts for it now.

The tuffy is the best bang for your buck armrest option. I did mine a bit different as I don't like the pad, I just left it off. You can also mount the cup holders a bit higher then most do and avoid having interference with your middle row seats.

Edit: I just noticed @RFB has the non radio slot version, so his probably doesn't interfere with the seats at all.
