Hoping that maybe one of you toyota fanatics will have a line on one of these cars. They are getting harder to find, but if you are like me, you probably notice cool older toyotas whenever you are out driving around. They made this style from 82 to early 86. They look like this:

and they had the big "Supra" decal on the back:

I know, what an odd place to post, right? I haven't had a car in years. I think my last car was an 88 Daytona Turbo Shelby Z in 1991. I love my trucks, and I don't plan on selling either of them, but I wouldn't mind having a fun car to drive around and keep the miles off the trucks. I can't justify the Supra for gas mileage, but it should be about 10 mpg better than what I get now.

It's my latest obsession, admittedly. I am searching craigslist via searchtempest, dailylister, and autotrader, cars.com, ebay, etc...if you know of someone that has one of these off to the side or you see one on a used car lot in your neck of the woods, please let me know. I'll be happy to buy you dinner and a case of beer if I buy one that you find. Thanks!

Sounds great! I would be very interested. I noticed your avatar, so you might appreciate this. The cleanest one I have found for a good price is a about 300 miles away, but it's in TX. However, it's the same color as the 2nd one I posted. Toyota calls it, Super Deep Red, but I see Maroon, A&M Maroon. I just can't do it. ughh.

Hook 'em!

I always thought those cars were cool. I have a 85 supra master cylinder on my 40. :grinpimp:

Let me check on one...o motor, 82.

White Trash of the Elwood Chapter, TORC4x4.org, Cottonland Cruisers.

It's amazing how hard clean ones are to find. Usually, if I start looking at a certain type of vehicle, I will start noticing them more often on the road. This has not been the case with these Supras.

I thought I had one up near Ft. Worth, but a guy from celicasupra.com told me it was rusted out and to pass on it. He's seen it go from car lot to car lot.
There's a few in Dallas, one is rusted out and the other is rigged with a 7M turbo, but doesn't have A/C (removed) and needs fuel management to run correctly.

I'll probably go take a look at this one as soon as I can get out to East TX:

I'll just have to slap a tasteful UT sticker on it, if I buy it.

DavidW, thanks for looking out for me, but I don't want to get into an engine swap. It would be more money and time than I have at the moment.
Keep the bird dogging going! Thanks again!

I was all set to buy the Supra in my previous post, but the guy decided not to sell. He said he started having anxiety about letting go of his Supra.
Oh well. The search continues.

I verified that the one i knew of has been sold. :meh:

Cool. Thank you, for checking up on it for me. These things are getting harder to find. I think the seller of the one I almost purchased will decide to sell after he gets over the "seller remorse". Only time will tell.

I'm watching that one on ebay. It looks super clean, but I hate when people with only one previous sale decide to sell a higher priced item. It makes me leery of what they are hiding.

I think that one in Vegas is one that somebody combined two cars to make one nice one and then painted it. The history report on it shows it as a Supra L. For the MKII Supras, there were p types and L types. The p types had the fender flares, adjustable Supra seats, and usually a better geared rear end with LSD. The P was for performance. The L types had a more plush type seat, some had digital dashes, and they didn't have fender flares.
It definitely has the look of a P type, but the L on the history report makes me think otherwise. Sneaky

He listed it 15 minutes after my shift started. I already talked with him about it. I'll be looking at it tomorrow, but there is some question about the mileage. I'm still going to see it, and if he is willing to negotiate on the price, I might have a Supra.

How many miles are claimed to be on it?

The seller just said that it's over 100K.
When they bought it, it had less, but then they found paperwork that showed higher mileage at an earlier date so they assumed the cluster had been replaced.
The autocheck shows 80K up until 2006, and then in 2008 it jumps to 190K. I think it's less than that. Actually, I am hoping that we can figure out a better estimate of the actual mileage. I am going to see the car regardless. It's too clean and close not to.

The search continues. The owner pulled a "weenieish" move in my opinion. The car was literally 1 mile from where I work, and I offered to come by immediately after my shift or soon after, but he said that he had a few errands to run and we would have to do it later.
I text him in the morning to set up a time and he said "about 2ish" and that he would text me when he gets home.
At 2:35, he sends me a txt indicating that he will be home in 30 minutes, and directions to the back alley/entrance of his house.
By this time, I am back in South Austin, so I gather my stuff, fire up the 4runner and start heading his way. I arrive at 3:15, and there is the Supra with the owner and another guy looking under the hood.
I said hello, and mildly started checking the car out, figuring that I would wait my turn. They went for a test drive, and I waited. When they get back, I find out the other guy is going to buy it. I smiled, shook their hands, and left.
Yeah, I am venting. It just seemed that he set us up to show up at the same time so that we could play off each other. It worked for him. The upside is that it looks way better in photos than in person. Many small items need to be done and he wanted more than I would have spent.
Cooling off now. Thanks for listening.

I've been fantasizing about a 1998 MKIV JZA80- Twin Turbo; 6-Speed Manual, Sport Roof, Quicksilver FX Metallic for the last 18 years!
