I feel pretty lucky to be the new owner of this 1962 fj40 FST. I picked it up from another Mud member who had it as a parts rig. He was willing to part with it so I bought it. Thanks!

It was missing some of the parts but I was able to make a deal to pick up some of the parts before I picked it up such as running boards, soft top bows, and a tailgate. I have a front clip from a 63 fj40 that will complete the rest of the missing pieces from the body. The tub is in pretty good shape, the only real rust to deal with is the rear sill. The frame has some pitting but is structurally good.

It has the original engine and drive train with it. The engine has been sitting with the oil pan off for the past 20 years so the crank and bottom end is all rusty. The t-case has two big cracks through the case but I have another out of a 72 fj40 that I hope will replace it.

The plan at this point is to start collecting the other parts I will need to complete it before I start too much of the build. I need to finish my 45 build first. Since the numbers match on the engine I am planning to try and build it as stock as possible but with a 2 inch lift and 32 inch tires. I would really like to add front disc brakes but I don't want to replace good original components. The bows I have are original but will need to be modified to fit. I will likely have to build doors from scratch as I don't expect to be able to find any original doors. Considering what I have listed how would you build this rig, restomod or as stock like as possible?

I would love to find an original stamped bezel for this. If anyone has one they would be willing to part with please let me know. I have a new reproduction stamped bezel I would add in the trade for the old one if that would help sway anyone.

Pictures are of it just before it got loaded on the trailer.

That is a beautiful Toyota Land Cruiser. Congratulations on it finding you.

Is it on the list? 40 Series Registry

On your question, I think the plan you have for it is perfect.

Thanks, It is not listed on the registry, so I will figure out how to add it.

Does anyone know where I can find comparison information on the different F engines. I have not been able to find a thread that talks about the differences, I have searched and still am. I have access to a 68 F engine that I would like to use some of the internals from to rebuild the original block in the 62. I want to compare them to see if this is even possible.

So I found some engine info. in the FAQ section but it all seems a little confusing to to me now. The faq lists the engine specs as the same for all F engines but when I compare the specs on the 62 vin plate to the 68 vin plate they are not the same. I am going to start a thread in the 40 section to see if I can get some more information about these motors.

I have a pair of 62 lower doors in good shape with the outside handles. I was going to make into half doors can't bring myself to do that. Would consider as partial payment of a older style mirror from a 45. Pm me if you are interested and I will send pics.

Nice idea. But your doors are incompatible with a 1962 factory soft top model.

I saw your post first and I got excited but if the doors you have are the same as what Old Red posted he is right they won't work for the soft top model. The door shape is different. If you a fst door set though I am interested

Either way I appreciate the offer.

Only original doors would be soft doors. Have never seen a version of these that were hard. I have a set of half doors that someone modified full doors. Had to cut them to make them unlike the hard doors that unbolt. Came with a set of early bows of a 61 FJ40 FST.

Are these parts you are interested in selling? Either way I would be interested in seeing how the modified half doors turned out. Will you post some pictures of them.

Looking in the back pile of parts, the bezel is upside down. :)
