paint and body

This belongs in the paint and body forum. Please move this thread.

It's decided, the color of my 40 will be "BLACK"... Thanks for your replies and for your pictures...

Make sure your body work is damn good before you paint, no matter how nice of a paint job you put done bad bodywork in the back is going to ruin the look of your 40. This is especially true with black.

As for the painting against the stock color b.s. I see nothing wrong with black. It's a common color on just about anything else and it looks pretty decent on a 40. When you start jumping to the more radical colors is when it can hurt the value of your 40.

FJResto. You have all the accents done just right on that thing! Nice use of silver/chrome and white mixed with the black.

There is a similar one I see once in a while on Langley AFB but his lid is completely black. I can't remember what color his bezel is. It is clean and straight but it just doesn't look "right". I honestly have nothing against black cruisers, just has to be broken up is all. For some reason White (yeah I know it is a factory color) on a FJ40 bores the s*** out of me though. I know it is easy to touch up, etc, etc, etc.... but still boring to me. Now I'll duck and hide from all the guys with white cruisers.

Ohh, quick side note.

Just make sure you don't paint your cruiser green, that's got to to be the most boring color :D

green73,

You obviously haven't seen many white cruisers, they are far superior to any color. I actually choose white for the look over function, I find if your break them up just right, like black, it turns out great.

Personally, I don't find any FJ40 boring, I always get excited when I see one around town no matter the color.

thought i had more pics of the black years.

before the nuclearlemon got it's obnoxiously yellow paint job, it was black to cover up the rust. yellow seemed better when a) someone dubbed it the antichrist, and b) i parked it at "dad's" house with his daughters purple cruiser, his orange cruiser and his sons lime green cruiser.

earth tones are good, but bright colors also work well. i don't even like yellow.

Point taken. It all comes down to personal choice. I knew the stink would fly over my comment, and I made it anyway. live and learn.

I was just messing with ya, there are some nice green cruisers out there. Although Degnol's looks more blueish to me.

My favorite colors for an FJ40 are the green like in Joanne's rig shown above with the bikini top, the dark forest green in the photo Nuclerlemon posted, and tan. I wasn't keen at first on the pale blue on mine, but it's grown on me. (I preferred a darker blue). These three colors are like forests, the desert and the sky. They remind me of the outdoors, and thus seem "themed" to an FJ40.

I'm not a big fan of orange, yellow or some reds. Fire engine red is OK. I like a deep, bold yellow with lots of black (I forget who it is here, but his yellow FJ40 runs a Ramsey worm drive winch - I like his paint job.)

I've always liked black and white zebra paint jobs. If I had a white FJ40, I think I'd paint it zebra.

OK.......................your green is cooler than my green:crybaby: :D
I have always loved the Olive Green or Olive Brown, whatever it is. Dune is my 2nd choice.
