Im sure this has been covered but anyway I was going to get a lift kit from TPI(2.5-3") until I came across this one from man-a-fre. This is for my FJ62. Does anyone know if there has to be any special mods done to install this 4"kit with the reverse shackle thing? Does this kit appear to have everything I would need or would I also need like 2 or 4 degree shims as well? How would the extra height affect the driveline and such with potential problems like vibration? Forgive all the questions but Im paranoid about getting a lift put on and not being aware of what problems I might run into or not having all the proper parts. Is there much diffenence between these two types of lifts in the way on performance or ride quality???

[glow=red,2,300]The ultimate suspension system for your FJ60. Included in this kit is everything you will need to install a high quality long travel suspension system with 4" of overall lift, extend your brake lines, properly reposition your front sway bar end links, and reverse your front shackle to the rear of the front leaf spring. The improvement in ride quality and control is amazing. Kit includes 4 Safari lifted leaf springs, 4 Heckethorn, or Old Man Emu Shocks, front Shackle Reversal Kit, 2 rear 4+Plus Greasable Extended Shackles, 4 Greasable Spring pins, 8 new U-bolts, Old Man Emu Steering Dampener, 2 front extended sway bar links, front and rear extended DOT stainless braided brake lines, 16 spring bushings & 8 shackle bushings.[/glow]

I think you should call Man-a-fre tech dept and ask them about shimming to compensate for the increased drive shaft angle. This MAY be less critical on a longer wheel base vehicle like a 60, put don't assume that this is the case.

The shackle reverse involves cutting, welding, grinding, etc.--basically, you're taking the solid link from the rear of the front spring and putting it up front where the shackle currently is; the shackle, of course, then goes to the rear.

Some people like shackle reversals, others don't like their effect on steering.

I got the 4'' lift from m.a.f. for my fj55 and its great. super stiff ride, which is good for some things. To create lift with the springs they have to be arched and stiffer to give the rig its 2'' or 4'' inches. This makes a very harsh ride
on-road, but on the trail you will see why
its so tough. If I could do it all over again I would get a milder lift ,say 2.5 inches
There are pro and cons to every upgrade,
think center of gravity/stability issues.
Caster shims come in m.a.f.'s reversal kit
and they have taken most of the guesswork
out of it.There are so many questions and twice as many answers. Have fun! matt

Persoanly on a 60 I wouldn't bother with SR. just get some 4" springs or 2.5" and some shackles.

On a 40 the SR has some benifits, on a 60 it really doesn't IMOP.

But yeah I used the MAF SR on my fj45, well made, fit like it was supoose to, I did use the shims(4deg I think), but tossed the ones that MAF included as they were aluminum, I had steel shims made.

We ran the TPI 2.5" lift on my wife's '88 FJ62 for a couple of years and loved it. Ride was great!!

The kit was entirely OME components except for the springs themselves and the poly bushings. We got it during their end-of-year sale and got a good deal. Pretty much negated shipping costs.

I'd put one on again in a heartbeat. No question.

Jody.
