I’m hoping you guys can help me out. I have a friend with a 200 series who wants to camp and sleep in her truck. She wants to be able to lock the doors without running the engine. However, when she locks the doors with the key inside the truck it unlocks again with that convenient feature to keep you from locking your keys in the truck. Is there any way to defeat this?

thanks!

What year and LX or LC? My 13 LC doesn’t unlock after locking with the fob from inside. I’ll have to dig around the convenience settings and see whether that is something I configured to be that way.

That might be a Techstream configurable option.

My 2013 will sound a long beep if I try to lock the truck from the outside but my wife left her keys in her bag in the vehicle. If my key fob is inside I can lock it, though.

If the LC/LX is like other toyotas, you can disable the key fob temporarily with a sequence of button presses. I don't remember the sequence but I'm sure you'll find it with a search.

I sleep in my truck from time to time. With the engine off, I hit lock all on the door from the front seat and then crawl in back. Does not auto unlock because the key fob is still inside the truck. Can also use the fob to lock all from inside, but the alarm may go off if you try to manually unlock a door. Using method above, does not sound the alarm when opening a door from the inside. When sleeping inside, it can be a pain getting out as cannot upon the rear hatch from the inside without the popular mod adding a rear hatch switch.

Putting the Fob inside a Faraday Bag like @RobW0 mentioned will definitely work. I use one to lock my fob inside my truck with the valet key all the time.

I noticed that when my keys fall inside my empty YETI can koozie, the vehicle can't sense them. Works for me keeping it locked when I'm sleeping on the roof.
