I am having trouble with the selector that allows you to go between Lock & Free on the front hubs. One of them on my rig will only rotate a small portion of the distance it is supposed to. I know they are normally stiff, but this is different. Ideas/experience on what the trouble could be and/or fixes?? Its my DD, so I'm hesitant to go ripping into it, only to find that I need a part I can't get for a week. Thx. If its of any help, despite the selector being in the middle, it seems to be locked, as I have 4WD capability.

Take down.

Clean up/repair.

Back together.

dont worry about getting parts.............you can't, Toyota sells no parts for the Aisin hubs, besides the hub cover gasket and the hub gasket. order both of these. then pop the hubs off and clean and re-grease them.....you should be good to go.

Leave it to LP, he's got about 100 pair of Aisin hubs on his property!

HA!

:flipoff2: yep there are a few of em thats for sure, the Aisin are not the easy to take apart(in all the little peices) but not as easy to put back together the 1st time, but once you do one......they are easy. Actaully worked on a Warn for the 1st time last weekend...

I had a similar problem with my hubs on my 85. I bought new warn hubs before I took the other one's apart. Turns out the passenger front (the one that wouldn't engage) had basically grenaded inside. It was in pieces when I got it off.

I would go spend the $100 and go new. It's an easy repair. Most repair manuals have an exploded view of the hubs if you need a little visual.

WARN, ACK, trader.

Ive had both, and the Aisin jobs are way stronger IMO.

I only used the Warns(which I had already) becuase I needed to replace the 40 year old Husky hubs on my 45LV, when I find a set of Asco corse spline hubs I will toss the warns. I have a set of corse spline drive plates as well, but the hub caps are cut for the lockers.

this is what I replaced.......

never seen anything like it......

I agree the Aisin/Asco is a much better hub.

Before you get out your wrench, try rocking the vehicle. Sometimes the hubs will come free and rotate after rocking it back and forth a bit...
