I'm a bit baffled by the range of different AISIN free-wheeling hubs available (for example on the Cruiser Outfitters site) and the non-specific application specs.

I see two material differences - spline count and case design. The spline count is obvious, but what about the fully round hub compared to the waisted type with strange cutouts on the mounting flange? The bolt/stud pattern is surely the same, so what's the purpose of the shaped type?

And does anyone know if there is a material difference between the red and bronze dials?

How about between IFS and solid axle hubs?

I'm keen to replace my FWHs as monkey mechanics have hammered and deformed the radius of the mounting flange to remove the cone washers, but want to keep the gold dials. I can get reasonably priced red-dial type hubs from a reputable supplier but want to check that they will be useable.

How about the splined clutch collar in the hubs - can they be interchanged between hubs with different spline types?

Thanks

EO

There are several differences in the range beyond just soft features such as color and dial profile. The differences that matter are spline/hub length, spline count and size, hub base profile and hub base bolt pattern. Maaaaany are interchangeable, particularly for the 79+ PU/4Runner and the 1980-1997 Cruisers (and later 7x)

I can comfortably say we stock more AISIN options than anyone in the world. It's my only claim to fame :D

Thanks Kurt. Any idea what the reason is for the odd-shaped hub base (centre top in your picture)?

Nothing practical, but Toyota added the same "scallops" or reliefs to the wheel hub itself so AISIN matched it. So long as the pattern matches, the shape isn't a deal breaker UNLESS you want to upgrade to 6 dowels, can't be don't with the scalloped.

For example the 80 Series:

Thanks :)

One last question, what's the difference between FHT-013 and FHT-016 on your website?

Primarily the dial, one is flat, the other has a bump. Both are NLA from AISIN so what inventory we have... is it. Once they sell, we are out.
