Hi all

I'm trying to replace the lock cylinder on my hj60. Long story short: the key is bald. I'd like to swap in my fj60 cylinder

problem is: on the fj and the FSM it shows the little pushbutton on the front- just insert key, turn to ACC, push button with wire/punch then remove cylinder

Not working.

It appears that there is no button on the hj's cylinder

Further: on the fj, the back of the housing has a hole to which is mounted the door-beeper switch. On the hj, there is no switch and it feels like there is a plug there.

Anyone with no door beeper out there know if the factory plugs that hole?

Or did a 'mechanic' down here use that plug to hold in the key cylinder (which would be a huge PITA for me)?

thanks!

fj60's have no door beeper.

thats about all I know.

My 10/83 fj60 definately has a door beeper. When the key is in the ignition and the driver's door open, it beeps enough to drive you mad. Here's a pic of the momentary switch:

Maybe you meant HJ's? Which would make sense in light of my HJ not having one. I just figured it was a Non-US thing.
Ok, this is silly. I can't make the image show up, despite 4 tries....

I guess

Note the "G" position. Wonder if the fj cylinder will fit at all? Hmm...
First, of course, we gotta get that darn hj's cylinder *out*

"G" must mean glow for the glow plugs? If so, you'll be missing a rather important circuit for your HJ if you put in an FJ lock cylinder, right?

that's what I'm afraid of.
I suppose I could just install a momentary switch somewhere and hold it down instead of holding they key at G. But I don't really relish the idea of doing the extra wiring.
I'd really love to find a 20 second switch that I can just push once and then sit back or do something else... but that's pretty lazy of me, I guess.

I'll bet the lock cylinder has NOTHING to do with the "G" position, other than the cute letter on the lock cylinder. The "G" position is a function of the ignition switch only. The switch and lock cylinder are separate items.

For what it's worth, my '82 BJ60 does not have a "Key in the Lock" buzzer. My old '84 BJ60 did.

wierd, I have never seen a 60 or 62 with a key lock beep or a door lock beeper and have seen a few of them.

Now there's an understatement!! :) Shoot, you probably own as many 60s as some listers have ever seen!

I may end up parting out Sandy, if I do, and you want the beeper, just lemme know
