I am going to crawl under my sons FJ40 this weekend to check fluid levels.

I have not looked at the transmission / t-case in about 3 years and cannot remember where the fill / drain plugs are located. Below are pics of where I think that they are.

Does anyone have a diagram or pics?

DO NOT DRAIN THE OIL UNTIL THE FILL PLUGS ARE LOOSE
grind down a 6 point socket to get good grip on the plugs, so as not to round them off

I just did this on my fj40 and before I started I purchased new fill and drain plugs along with crush washers from Cruiser Teq. I needed an impact driver to loosen the drain plugs. If you’re changing the oil, you should make sure you have correct on hand — for me GL-4 gear oil.
