Local resources needed.

I want to build remote control emu wings for my 100. Third row windows that flip up at the click of a button / remote. I have an idea on how they would work and would use existing glass and not change the interior hardly at all. And not costs $700 per side and disfigure the interior. I need a local metal fabricator to fab up the mounts and the window channel and the gas strut mount and how they would lock. That is the coolest feature they would be on a remote control and could be opened like a rear tailgate on newer trucks. The two window switches on the dash could release the windows as well so when you pull up to your activity, you hit the buttons and the wings are open before you get out of the truck. Instant access to fridge and gear without opening the rear hatch.

I also believe this system could be worked out for gx and 4runner and other SUVs with 3rd rows. Hard to believe the auto manufacturers have not figured this out.

Any club folks make stuff? Any ideas on who to talk too?

If we can get this built, we can sell to all 100/200/4Runners.

I think you're delusional, thinking that you can integrate all of those features and keep it under $700 per side. Want glass or metal panels?

Usually.
Using the OEM glass
Hing Bracket bolts into where the grab handle bolts in today.
Imagine a metal sleeve across the top edge of glass that attaches to the pivot bracket that it bolted into the grab handle bolts.
The gas piston bolts through the whole that in the glass today. Also, this is where the magnet release would attach. There are tons of these magnetic releases to look through and find the right one.

Maybe FabCo in Cary but it will be more then you expect.

Yea, development of a product like this isn't easy or cheap.

A good place to start would be working out the hinge/metal sleeve/mounting. Try to mock up what you can yourself and work out any bugs. Once you get that you can get a second better prototype and/or start working on the other areas.

Watch out for those magnets. The ones I've seen have power applied to hold closed. If you loose power they release and the 12 battery would die trying to keep one latched. The latch part should be easy compared to fabrication of something affordable.

Have to agree with sean , on the maglock. I have installed many , they pull some amperage.

You need something that takes power to release.

What if you fabbed a rubber seal along the metal opening and then had someone drill holes in your current glass? Couple at the top for the hinges, one on each side for the shock and one at the bottom to hold a bracket that would 'catch' & 'release' like a normal hatchback... Just a though

Pinto for Attention  Just imagine the below as your side window

Came across a video on the YouTube about making these and reminded me of your thread.
Here's the video:

Also here's a link to a set, will cost you $588 in US which is less than your $700 :hillbilly:
