Do we have a local carb expert? My truck runs fine, but it really stinks and I think the carb needs to be rebuilt. Any suggestions for local people?

could just be timing and fuel adjustments. Mine stunk then I had my mechanic fiddle with it a bit and it cleaned up nicely

Used to be a place in southern NH called Hobbs Carburator Service or somethng similar. I used them a couple times for my FJ60 carb when I lived up that way. Not sure if they're around anymore though. I was happy with the work they did for me; 'specially since it was a third the cost of a Jim C (of OH not CT) rebuild. Jims work is top notch but I just needed a stock rebuild at the time.

SouthBostonFJ, did you find anyone to rebuild your carb?

I had some carb issues that I was able to clear up temporarily, but now they're back. I think it's time for an expert to take over, so I'm looking for recommendations.

zebra, I did a search and found this company: Hobbs Carburetor Shop, Pelham NH -- (603) 635-2415. I'll give them a call.

Thanks.

I just rebuilt one of my carbs. it's a piece of cake. Just take a lot of pictures so you remember where stuff goes and be sure to buy a gallon of carb dip to soak the parts in for a coupla days. Pinhead's videos are also a big help.

I'm happy to take stuff apart. If you have the gaskets and whatnot, I've rebuilt my old FJ60 carb. Usually just a soak in a bucket of solvent and some high pressure air to clear out passages does the trick.

I'll put in another vote for Hobbs. The guy works out of his house, low overhead, prices are very reasonable, although truthfully it was a long time ago when I used them to rebuild the carb on my 22R. I dropped off a carb that looked like it had been in a fire, it came back looking brandy new. The bead blast it and do a flow test when it's all done.
