Hi All -

There is a ‘78 FJ55 at the LKQ in Raleigh (actually Clayton). Ryan (@UZJ105) and picked some parts this morning.

I was talking to the women who worked there and you can actually buy the frame and body. Unfortunately, you cannot take them out together (ie body attached to the frame).

Anyway, just wanted to let local users know.

Matt

I'm sure that 8274 is gone by now.

Yep, I snagged it first thing this morning. I was there waiting for the place to open.

The Saginaw steering box was still on it when we left. I tried taking it off, but it was held on with allen bolts. Motor is a 350 swap and was being pulled while we were there. I grabbed most of the lenses and exterior vents. The hatch and rear glass was still on the truck when I left.

@stoshzack nice meeting you today. Hopefully we'll see you at a dinner or one of our events.

Mind me asking what that set you back. Can't say I've ever seen one in a yard like that. Curious if it's just a flat rate for an aftermarket winch or if "I know what I got"

They are pretty flat rate over there. They charged me $100

Ok, so we all hate you now ;-).

I got a 8274-50 many moons ago off CL for $500 that was pretty pristine. Dude had it on a Bronco and it it came attached to a damage multiplier bumper, which I sold for $150. Thought I got a steal then, wow!

Ryan was nice enough to let me snag the rims. I had to wait around 45 minutes for them to take the tires off, but the inside of the rims still had the OEM part number stickers. Guessing those rims weren’t from 1978.

I had fun talking to Ryan and checking out a Pig. First time I’ve seen one up close.

@UZJ105

Ryan - do you remember how the body panels were on this Pig? I had a member (@R.K.) reach out and ask. I don’t remember any rusted thru portions, do you? I do remember excessive caulking around the windshield.

I remember seeing a lot of rust in most of the seams, but I didn't look too closely. I do remember the roof had a lot of rust above the gutters

Ha - this passed me on the back of a flat bed at the corner of Eagle Rock Rd and Wendell Falls Parkway last week - wonder where it came from - hadn't seen it around before that.

My wild guess is, someone died and family members needed to clear out what they perceived as junk. No one would have knowingly sent a pig with an 8274 mounted to it, to a scrap yard.

FIFY! 🤣

Damn, my backyard and normally I'm good about keeping up with these types of things! May have to see what I need and check it out.

I don’t think they sit on the LKQ lot for more than a week or two, but I could be mistaken.

...unlike any domestic car/truck/van, which sit there for years.

I don’t think anything is sitting at LQK for months let alone years. I’ve seen Toyotas gone in a week. The Mexicans make quick work of the domestic vehicles. I suspect most vehicles are sent to scrap within a month or less.
