I've been told that I'm getting subpar fuel milage. I thought it was pretty good, anyone have any opinions ?

19mpg City in and out of 4WD, hubs locked the entire time
~29mpg Highway @ 110km/h

19 is par for city
29 mpg highway is exceptional...
i average 20 around the city and 18-25 highway (18 @ 130, 25 @ 90)
this is the FIRST LJ78 hilage over 25 that i have heard of. i have driven many LJ71/78s auto and standards and none of them have broke the 25 mark so congrates...
cheers

I calculated my city milage, the highway is an educated guess, but I think it should be close. It may be slightly optimistic.

I'm surprised you drive your trucks at 130 km/h, seems like they're really workin at that speed.

on the highway between Calgary and Edmonton. speed limit is 110 but if you do 130 you still are being passed like you are standing still.
yes, the pyro is reading 1000 constantly. i tried uping the boost again yesterday to reduce the pyro readings and once again it made a big difference. i do not recommend this without both a pyro and boost gauge installed...
cheers

After 3 full tanks on my 90 LJ71, auto, 215's ,stock, I'm averaging 25 MPG's. I also was hoping for a bit better. Your LJ78 is at least a few humdred lb's heavier than my 71.

even with the 4.90 gearing the little 2LTE is working hard to maintain the highway speeds.
it is also shocking when HDJ81s with the huge 4.2 L and 6000 lbs are retruning 28 mpg regularly...

Very impressive. I get only 12l/100km (Ё20ьзп) on highway on my LJ78.
Is that because of automatic transmission or something is wrong with my engine? Where should I start looking?

Wayne,

Can you explain how you calculate mileage with oversize tires? I have looked for a calculator, but have not come up with much.

thx-
jason

use a GPS unit for accuracy or drive one of those km test zones and note the difference...
cheers

latest fillup 510 kms 57 litres. not that great - approx 22mpg mix city highway. stock tires. 105 km/hr on highway

Luxury Imports states 33-38 mpg for the Prado. What do I have to do to get that kind of milage

i get around 10 km/ltr highway driving and around 6-7 city driving. just keep it below 2-2.5 rpm, and keep that turbo disengaged

luxury states a mistake. it was to read 23-28 mpg... does this make more sense. i have been trying to get this changed to no avail...
sorry

I've noticed this on all the LJ78s they've listed. Don't be sorry for the mistake, be sorry for making me feel inadequate for so long :D

what ened up happening is i copy and past much fo the info from one to another units descripstion since many share the same characterisitcs. that was part of the cross posting copy that wasn't caught till much later...
i will see if i can get this cleared up...
ooops.

The over sized tire thing goes like this:

If stock tire is 28 inches (I'm in the US so...) Then 28 x Pie (3.1415)= 87.96 inches in circumference. That's how far you travel with one turn of the tire.

If you jump to a 31 inch tire... 31 x 3.1415= 97.38

97.38/87.96= 1.1071

Multiply your odometer by 1.1071 and you get a number closer to actuall distance traveled. But!!! Not all tires are the same size, even if it says it's the same size. If you regear, then it gets more complicated. GPS is a much more acurate measuring tool for this.
