hey folks,
I sold my FJ40 before moving from Texas to Sydney and feel the need to have a cruiser again. If anyone knows of a decent Diesel 70 series reasonably close to Sydney, please let me know. Also if you know of a good cruiser repair/service shop in Sydney, I'd like to know that as well. Thanks

Douglas

Do you mean your after a diesel 70 series shorty
or any 7x series diesel mate?

thinking about an 84-87 year model

hey,
I'm thinking about a 1984-87 that I could play with for a year or two and then take it back with me to the states. All I've seen on ebay, carsales.com.au and carpoint.com.au so far is SWB, which is fine. BJ73 is cool, is there a corresponding troopie version? I would like something under 10k AUD$ that I can use right away. Thanks for the respones.

All the 7* series started their production run in 85(and a handful in Nov 84) but the LWB 75 series outnumber the SWB and MWB by 100:1

The troopy you would be aiming for is a HJ75(2H diesel) or FJ75(3F unsmogged),comes as either a pick up or troopy and nearly always white and have the mesh steel grill.

The pick ups are usually the better for rust and cheaper. Just throw a canvas canopy on the back and you have a troopy, sort of.:D

mate not sure if this posted before, internet connection troubles.

There used to be (last year) a good toyo mechanic at the corner of Oliver and Pittwater Rds Harbord (Freshwater) about 15 kms (but an hours drive) from the centre of Sydney. he may also be able to point you in the right direction for what to look out for.

For the life of me i cannot remember his name or shop name, but you could go for a ferry and bus ride, to ahve a look or check the yellow pages..

Trafding post, ebay and carpoint are your friend in this search..

Hope this helps

You got to celebrate christmas a day earlier than those in Texas...

They are the standard tradesman truck/pickup down here, wherever you drive you can pretty much count on seeing a few other 70 series trucks on the road.

Doug, what brings you to oz? I am wondering how hard would it be for a american or canadian to move there and work for a living. Wonder if oz has a lost of living index vs the west coast of the united states.

do you know much about minning lol plenty of that in WA

RE: Working in Oz. --Pretty hard is my understanding. Work VISAs aren't very easy unless you are a KIWI or from the UK, or work for a multi-national that you can transfer with...I did the later. I watched the Sydney to Hobart race start yesterday, even in a misty rain, Sydney harbor is tough to beat. cheers

If your under 30,see the australian consulate in your area. There are reciprocal agreements with Canada,US,UK and a few others.

Rustybucket,If you work in a skilled position where there is a need in Australia, you may well qualify for a visa. You search up a job in Aus, get that firm to sponser ou and come on over. it is time consuming but can be done. Usually takes about 6 months to organise. Talk to your local consulate.

DMZ, you wait for those New Years eve fireworks bloke. Get there early and be prepared to share your spot with thousands of others.... but they are a defining moment in being in Australia. Us Darwininians get fireworks like kids set off. Sydney, a class of its own...
