annie visited the casa ige car wash for a little cleaning and styling today ;)

good to have her clean again. once engine has cooled, she will be getting her first oil change since we've been driving her.

With all those cruisers I only wish we were neighbors

Cylinders

Thanks for the parts info. and pics NUC - but I have a question: where did you order from? I see the parts #'s and I've tried to search online at Dana Corp., Tokicko, etc., and nothing seems to work. I'll just order where you ordered from if possible. Also - in the pic I copied from your earlier post, is it possible that those seals are the only thing I need to replace, or is there an inner seal or race that I'm missing? Thanks a lot for your help.

Check "GWS rare parts" on ebay. I got them there and so did Nuclearlemon.

there are those seals, plus this cup. you need to run a hone through to get the scale and grit off the walls so they're smooth for the cup and plug to slide on, and spring gets replaced because it gets worn. a very quick and easy job. i got the cylinders off a guy on ebay. iirc, splangy posted his info in a thread on wheel cylinders in here, that's how i found him. if i get time, i'll dig up the dudes name. he's in indiana, great to deal with and should still have quite a few

borrowed a friends bore scope to look at 5 and 6 cyl walls in the 80 which suddenly started burning mass quantities of oil and figured we'd look inside annie too. nice and clean! plus show a bit rich, but it runs soooo good now, i don't really want to touch it ;)

Thanks for the info. on wheels cylinders guys - I just found what I needed from GWS rare parts. I ordered rear cylinder kits for my rig, does the same kit work on the front cylinders? You guys are the best.

no, fronts and rears are different. the front only uses one rubber and plastic cup, the rear uses two of each. i rebuilt the rears a month or so before the fronts, so the pics are farther back in this thread

ok, haven't gotten much done lately. my ford fuel sender float failed, so i have to fix that and i've just started doing the final tweaking on the bows before the final set is made, but in the meantime, just so you don't go thinking she's a garage queen, here's an action shot from earlier this year :D

well done to the pair of you i love your work. you run my kind of restore; though at about tenfold the pace! i have spasmodically checked this thread all year as i got the chance but i rarely comment. for a few hours spread over christmas i read it all properly from start to finish. was my christmas book! loved it. i endlessly tinkering with a 64 fj45 trayback but finally got a few things together and been using it very regularly these last couple of months. thinking of doing a little thread dedicated to "project patina". christmas day i threw a blanket on the tray along with an extension lead, my record player and couple boxes of old records, drove to brothers house and set up on the lawn to give the kids a change of technology. boxing day we loaded up with beer and bathers and drove 60 mile of backroads to a party at my friends farm. longest drive to date and baking hot weather. still have a few cooling system issues but made it back this morn without incident. lots of fun. i love having her driveable and can imagine how you feel about orphan annie. while my refurbishment has been rougher and slower it is along the same lines. anyways once again well done; on both the toyota work, and the effort put in to make such an enjoyable and informative thread.

been a while since i've done much to annie. working on rebuilding center arm and replacing spring bushings so i can get her wild attitude tamed a bit. would love to find a period looking knobby in a radial 7.00x16 for my split rims so i can save the snow cruisers from an early death, but radial seems to be the issue. would like to keep it comfortable for driving, but may just end up going with traxions. still haven't gotten the bows nailed down perfectly, need to get on that, but refinancing house, fixing up house, supervising a build on a pig for my brother, working extra hours while we're short handed and being sick have taken a lot of my time an energy :(. soon....heck, if i can finish the out with old spring bushings and center arm this weekend, i'll be thrilled with my progress.

Those bushings are still good, just flip them over upside down and backwards. On second thought, chuck them as far as you can. I went with traxions on my stock 16" solid wheels as a safety concern, too scared to mount a radial that are too wide for that wheel. The flaming can commence in 15 seconds. John

They're getting old now but I went with military 650-16 Michelin XZL radials from north of the border.
