whats going to happen to it? parting it out? looks like it has a good bumper/lights, and some other parts worthwile parting out on the poor fire beaten car...

The body is pretty much unscathed, other than scorching of the hood, front fenders, and firewall.

The ONLY way I can see coming out of this OK is getting my truck back at least for parts and than buying another clean wagon.

I SERIOUSLY can't think of a camping/desert/FUN car I would rather have $$$ included (OK maybe a defender would be cool to have in addition), but seriously I love my 60!

ah your close in Socal, I've seen alot of sale lately.... a few in truck trader... also cruisierz.com or something has tons of ads.

Oh, man, I have seen a lot worse fires--but those were totaled too.

Not only the fire damage, but I've heard class C fire extinguishers are nasty to clean up after and are corrosive.

Not sure it's worth it not to total it--probably easier simply just to take the check (make sure they give you comparable worth), buy another 60, and buy back the totaled truck for parts, like the others have said.

Shame, that 60 looks nice.

bry,

Sorry to hear that man. But glad your ok. Buy back the truck and throw a Big D in here..And some new paint, The turn out might even be better than ya had.... good luck man and keep us posted.

Wow. Sorry to hear that/see that. Looks great otherwise. Good luck.

man that sucks. nice looking 60. any idea how it started?

Still waiting for insurance...........

Not sure how it started yet, still waiting for insurance to look at it.
Seems like it started near the carb, but you've got wires, exhaust manifold, fuel etc....

Amazing how much damage occurs in such a short amount of time.

Well,

Found out today that they are totalling her.
They have made an offer of around $5200, that's for a stock 82' 60 with 192K original miles.
That amount takes into account the Salvage title she has = 30% off of the value (LESSON LEARNED)
They said most companies take 50% off of the value.

The only real plus is that I got to buy her back for $500, so I get to save the full OME suspension kit, ARB front bumper, Kaymar roof rack, 5 - 33's, Saginaw conversion, S/S brakelines, lights, CB......etc A DEAL!

I thought they might screw me on that, since it wasn't covered.

Should I try to salvage her, she would need a complete main wiring harness, and almost everything bolted to the drivers side of the engine, fender, and firewall.....and maybe some crap I don't know about.........that's what scares me...oh yeah and a hood and the front end painted.

Or, should I just cut my losses and spend about 7K on a clean stock wagon and swap everything over?

Has anyone been through a similar situation?

Thanks for the input!

You have full coverage insurance? I think with my insurance I would just be SOL. Sorry about your loss, nice rig.

as far as auto fires go, that one really isn't that bad....looks like you could salvage most of the truck, repair the paint damage, replace the dash, etc... and have a nice "new" old truck ;)

just my 2¢, but it looks like you put a lot of love into that rig and this is just a good excuse to customize it some more, a Phoenix if you will, the second coming.....
