Hi all,

Hope you can offer some advice on something that's been bugging me for awhile. I have a 2.5" MAF Safari lift on my 60. Paid extra and got the OME shackles, shocks, etc. Was told that this would include the medium shocks. Actually received the light ones. In my haste to install the lift, I didn't take the time to return the shocks and exchange for mediums.

I kinda wish I did exchange them because...there are a few situations where I think I'm not getting enough damping. Both examples are on the freeway. One is what I guess you could call axle tramp - the road surface has small undulations from heavy truck traffic, and my axles hammer up/down and make a really loud noise. The whole truck shakes in a pretty violent way. The second is more of a front/rear pitch. Again the road has some irrigularities, but in this case the peak to peak distance is longer (longer wavelength). Once the front/rear pitch happens, it becomes very pronounced.

Tires are 33X9.50, at 32psi. Everything in the suspension/axles/etc is new or adjusted to spec.

Assuming that it's the shocks, am I best to go to the OME mediums, or I'm wondering if the heavy's would be better? I plan on bigger tires w/in the next 12 months. I use my cruiser as a DD, and as a vehicle to get to the mountains to camp/ski/hike/climb/etc. I carry multiple people, and gear. I don't mind a stiff ride, actually I prefer it to a sloppy or out of control one.

Any thoughts/suggestions/advice is welcome.

Best Regards,

lovetoski,

I just installed an OME light package, springs, shocks, anti-inversion shackles. Happy with the ride. 31x10.5 tires too.

Dunno, don't know enough about supensions. I'm assuming I got the *light* OME shock. How to tell ?

I wanted to match the shocks to the springs. Seems it worked. Talked to ARB/OME on the phone last night about the install.

Cheer,
Cahil

let me guess: I-5 corridor between Tacoma and Seattle?....

in short: the medium duty OME shocks will not improve on the condition you've described above. in our experience during our PDX-SEA run this week, the medium duty shocks only seemed to amplify the experience which pleased my wife's bladder to no end :o

my guess is that they may have some benefit with the fore/aft pitching but probably not enough to justify the cost. don't you just love WDOT? ;)

LOL....far right lane north and southbound starting at the King County line up to about Federal Way.........it will bounce the crap out of anymost anything, shocks won't help much. Drove that patch in my 3/4 chevy.......man it sucked! shocks were toast, bought new shocks........hardly any(if any) difference in ride.

I run OME lights on my 40/45, OME dsl spec(firmest there are) on my stock 62 and OME heavy/med fj60.......for each rig the combo works great.

dogboy/pimp - It's gotta suck for WSDOT that you two know right away the stretch of road I'm talking about. The worst I've found is the southbound right lane about 2 miles north of the Auburn/Enumclaw exit.

Pimp - why the shock differences between your 60 and 62?

Thanks for the responses!

no both the stock 62 and OME's 60 use the same OME shocks.

2+ years ago we were towing the 45 back from up north, we both thought it was gonna bounce off the trailer there. year latter we lost some stuff coming home from Boeing.........I had to run out into the trafic to pick it up.......stupid yes.........but if someone hit it that would have sucked.

Summer in WA is also know as Road Construction Season ;)
