I am soon due for the 45k mile service on a CPO truck bought at 40k mi. I asked about doing a tranny fluid swap (not flush) and, IIRC was told, "We don't recommend that. Only a drain and fill". I can't even get them to do it. On diffs and t-case, they check the fluid only at 15k mile intervals. Not a change scheduled, just "as needed". And fuel filters are not ever changed.

Where can I get a proper tranny fluid swap?

This maintenance schedule is a bit thin. Is Lexus like this everywhere for our trucks?

TIA

I think you are fine on the tranny fluid for a long time. the toyota recomended interval is 90k, so dont sweat it. bring it to an indpendant shop if you want it as well as the diffs changed.

I think you're thinking of the WS type fluid. The '03 uses type T-IV, which has the same changing interval as Dextron II trannies (ie, 30K mi).

No, my dealer over maintains and recommends service that's unnecessary. They do a drain & fill of the ATF pan and replace diff/tcase fluids at 15K, then do a full ATF exchange at 30K and repl diff/tcase fluids again. The do a front engine tear down to "inspect" the timing belt/water pump at 60K, and do a full valve gap check (manual only says to listen for unusual sounds). I think they do this to pad their profits since these cars don't break down. They charge $750 for their 15K service, $2.4K for their 60K, and those were '06 prices. I only have them replace the AHC/brake fluids and do the tranny fluid exchange w/ the machine (their a la carte prices are cheap, just labor and supplies, and their labor rate is less than the Toyota dealer...$95/hr vs. $150/hr)

Get the lexus visa card since you get 1.5% of any purchase towards any purchase/service at any lexus dealer (5% if the purchase is from a lexus dealer). The Toyota visa card is similar, but only gives 1%. I've accumulated over $1K in dealer points in less than 3 yrs, so when I have the timing belt/H20 pump done in 15K mi, all that should be free.

Wow, incredible the difference in the Lexus dealer practices. I am looking for an independent in Dallas that has a machine to do the tranny fluid swap.

Otherwise, this Lexus dealer is incredibly customer oriented. Sort of a bummer I can't get them to do the maintenence I want.

Just have them do the ATF exchange while under your CPO. You can do the diff's at another place. After your CPO is up then you can do the exchange. Your trans will last as long as you want to drive your LX doing just a normal transmission service. Fuel filter is fine and should never need to be replaced. If you do the exchange at a independant shop and have a failure Lexus will claim they did something to cause the problem. JMHO
