Letter "G" on a 60?

Mine is an 82 I believe, BJ60. It has the fender vents, no G logo on the fender. It has decent trim inside, carpet, looks like controls for A/C but no A/C. 5 speed. One of the fenders was mangled and repaired with bondo so I bought a replacement which has the G and no vent. So now what do I do, do I cut a hole in it and put the vent on, or do I sheet metal over the original vent on the other side? Or neither, since you can't see both fenders at the same time...

Is the fender completely rust free? Then trade me for my vented, rust-free fender. AFAIK, no Canadian 60 series trucks had fender vents.

No, it has some rust bubbles on the inside, the seams have rust starting, there is a largish toonie size patch on the outside near the top that will need repair. But it isn't rotting. It is driver side.

I would have the mangled vented fender to offer as well, it is only mangled at the front, most of it is in decent condition. I was thinking of cutting them in half and welding back together. That would need to be a precision job though.

Interesting, everything suggests this is a genuine Canadian BJ60. I'll get the VIN later. I didn't do Carfax before I bought it, probably should have.

I recall a thread on how to read the VIN, I think it was by @Beno. I believe this says that mine is the 4,473 rd BJ60. But not sure if its originally from Canada. The dash is in km.

My daughter is 15 and wants a G-Wagon (Mercedes) for her first car!! (As if!!!).
I told her I used to own a G wagon…I haven’t yet told her it wasn’t a Mercedes’, but a 1982 hj60 2H diesel Silver Edition 60 series…. With the G Logo…
It was a 5 speed manual cloth interior (1.5 front passenger seat). Manual windows, mechanical 4WD selection, central locking on the rear tailgate only, aircond.. and that was it!
Loved my G wagon!

I finally got the carfax report and it has history in BC Canada going back all the way to 1986. It is a 1981 model. I can confirm that the fenders had never been off before I took them off last year... so it seems the early BJ60's did have the fender vent. And the lack of rust is surely from being registered in BC. Beyond that I guess previous owners had the smarts to not drive in winter salt (mostly). I got lucky with this one!
