I know the "deluxe" model (which my g is) had softer suspension from the factory (because they all sagged). My owners manual also states some diffrent heights and ground clearance between models.

Not true.

The earliest of the cdn spec 1981 BJ60s had no "G" and had vinyl floors, vinyl bench seats (no console) and the cargo hoop on the tailgate. They are pretty rare I've parted only three or four.
 
Pat, white 60 looks cool. Specially with some retro stripes. You have a great plan. Stick with it. Not certain, but I think G stands for one step higher than base trim package. Definitely love the vent delete. Many have done them. I think it it looks great.

this thread is ancient but no one has gotten it correct above. I'll attribute my knowledge to a few things since this post was originally made. Lot's more information about 60 series trucks from other markets being available online, this website, increased imports into the US market (still giving a strong fist shake at the 25 year rule), and a huge resource has been instagram. Following 60 series owners with great instagram content in Australia and Japan has been instrumental. Many are happy to answers questions and once in a while I can help too. The world is big but it feels a bit smaller in 2018 versus 2006.

Outside of the US, you actually had a choice of options and diesel/gas-- here they shipped them pretty much all the same.

G was a trim level roughly equivalent to what we got in the US but again there was more variety because you could actually option trucks. As someone mentioned, US trucks didn't get the G because the carb vents for the gasser were in the way. The vents remained on the FJ62 even though it was fuel injected. Elsewhere also got a higher trim (Sahara) and a lower trim (poverty pack/no name).

At least in Australia and maybe Japan, there were more combos going on too. You could get an HJ60 with round headlights and a 2H diesel later than you could get an FJ60 in the US. Also, you could get an HJ60 in the late 80s with a low roof, velour/sport interior, updated dash, and quad headlights but a 2H motor. This overlapped a lot with HJ61s, high roof, the upgraded interior, updated dash but a 12-HT.

Engine wise, it generally depended on what fuel prices looked like and regulations. Cheap petrol, low regulations you got the 2F and 3F (a carbureted 3FE with no emissions equipment) in larger numbers in countries in the Middle East and Venezuela. Expensive petrol, low/or tolerant of trucks regulations you got more 2-Hs, 3bs, and the 12-HT/ (Australia and Japan, parts of South/Central America, and Europe).

Moral of the story. The G was a mid-level model roughly equivalent to US spec but with more optionality. Otherwise, trying to fit everything into a neat box isn't going to work.

Interesting, if you look at Toyota Australia's website for the 200 series this is for the most part still true. We still get essentially one variant of the LC in the US except it's moved a bit more upmarket and is aligned with the Sahara model.

I'm a fan of the ALT/PS pump placement on this vs the US spec models. moving the alt into the place of the air pump really cleans things up.
