Smaller moment arm for the ipad to shake around.

I have the same set up and I just can't see the bracket reducing much of the shake if any at all. The bracket only attaches 1/3 of the way form the bottom.

Getting ready for tomorrow. I don't have time to brace it before the trip. It pretty stable on the road but when you type or zoom around on the navi it tends to move a little more than I expected. :meh:

BACKPACKER Map Maker for Hiking Trails, GPS Topo Maps, National Parks for iPad on the iTunes App Store

This one was released this morning by Trimble & Backpacker to run on iPad & iPad2. I don't own either yet, I was hoping it might work on iPhone4, but not yet.

It's probably only suited to the NA/Canada market where the topo maps are more widely available, but it's free to download for the next 7 days or so if anyone is interested.....

I work for a Trimble dealer in Australia, which is the only reason I heard about it being released......:D

I downloaded it, seems to be good. I still need to get my iPad2 mounted in my truck and the badelf gps before I can test it out.

Looks nice. I'll try it out tomorrow.

Another update on my impossible, can't possibly work, isn't welded to the dash, it'll fall off in two seconds iPad mount:

It's still stuck and working perfect. The mount is so good that the first bracket I had cracked, but the base was still stuck. I have replaced the bracket and just done 600 mile trip that included 100 miles of pounding on some rough trails, rocks and other assorted obstacles.

I'm calling out victory for 3M trim tape.

Rob - first you look much more feminine in the pic than I had thought. :)

Second, I like the way your iPad mount drops over the top of the center hood. My windshield RAM mount hits right at the edge and consequently is about 1-1/2" higher, obstructing my view.

So... what do you think the prospects are for getting that mount stick-um off at some later point?

It's all my spa days that keep me looking fem.

The "droop over" actually benefits the stability of the mount as well as lowering the visual line. As I mentioned the uni-brac mount failed, the plastic fingers cracked so I swapped it out for a Motorola NNTN7295 and modified it to hold the Pro-Clip iPad mount. A side benefit of this bracket is that I can fold it horizontal when not in use.

In swapping the brackets I removed the old very easily. The way that the 3M tape works makes it very removable yet strong enough to hold the ipad and bracket.

Wanted to bump that MotionX GPS HD is currently marked down to $1.99 for the holidays in the app store. I'm developing custom GIS maps (ArcGIS) for my clients and have an iPad2 64GB 3G as a demo for clients/sales meetings. I use my Thunderbolt as a hotspot though. Can't beat an iPad2 getting fed through a 4G connected hotspot!

I'd love to know if any of y'all have ironed out the RAM mount shakes effectively by now?

not 100% but pretty damn close, I didn't budge on my wheeling trip this weekend, it doesn't wiggle when you type either, which was my biggest complaint. I do plan on covering the clamp with some beige felt.

So, if someone bought you an iPad 2 for Christmas and they didn't get you the one with 3G and they had it engraved with some cheesey "Merry Christmas" greeting on it so you can't return it, are you screwed if you want to use it for GPS duty in your 100?

I saw someone posted that you can buy external GPS product. Is that all you need to use the MotionX GPS apps? Any recommendation on what GPS add-on I should purchase?

Thanks to Onur.

You could probably wedge the iPad in that pocket if sufficiently motivated... :)

I should have included the "after" shot with the "befores"

Still need to work out some of the bugs, but I think it will be functional.
