i cancelled my 4x4 magazine subscriptions a while back, but bought one in a shop recently and saw an ad from Snake Racing (.com.au) for LED light bars.

Here's the YouTube link, and switch on your Aussie accent interpreter:

YouTube - LED Light Bars by Rigid Industries

They look ok, very pricey though. Any thoughts?

Edit: a comparison video is here.
cheers

Slee Off-road sells them. I was going to buy one in August, then I broke my CV joint n my starter didnt like life anymore. :frown:

LED tech has come a long way in the last 5 years, and will continue to develop as the prices drop. This is definitely on my wish list (30" flood bar on the roof plus a couple smaller 10" spots), but I'm not paying what the current market is pulling in for them. Maybe in another year or two.

yeah, at this point i need a winch next. :D

Heh, I need a lift, diff drop, 305s, an ARB combo bar....AND a winch. Gotta start banking some overtime or get a part time gig wrenching or something.

I looking at them too, but went with the PIAA 2100's instead because of price. RIGID Industries makes a solid looking option.

I love my VisionX LED Solstice array. Having said that I needed/wanted them for slower speed work during winter/short daylight hunting season. They provide an incredible amount of pure light virtually devoid of any light/dark or shadow striations in the beam pattern. I can light up 200' tall trees without issue. And they are good to about 50mph or so but leave me wanting for more reach for much faster road/off-road speeds.

However if you need long distance pencil type illumination for speed work HIDs are still the best technology given this particular application. Or maybe a combination of both HID for long distance illumination and LED for off-the bumper and a huge left/right and vertical wash of light.

Overland Journal included the Rigid LED bar in their aux lighting review earlier this year. The only complaint they had was the lack of HID type long distance reach...I think, just as TheFuzz mentioned, LED technology as it relates to our needs, has made huge inroads but still room for improvement/refinement.

So you really need to determine what type of illumination you need before deciding upon what light technology(s) to invest in.
