I don't have a source. I have just stood in front of them and they didn't blind me. I have run LEDs in all my cars and never had any issues or even been flashed. At the end of the day, these things are brighter than the halogens, but not THAT much brighter.
As you can see from the picture in one of my previous posts, the LED bulb (that I got obviously) doesn't have a very defined beam pattern, and it looks a bit like the HID-dump-all-the-lumens-fast. I fear that the LEDs can have beam pattern issues, and not being blinded or flashed at isn't really the same as the headlight operating the way it should :)
Do you have a night-shot from your LED install mdandashly? 35 feet away from a wall? Would be great to collect some wallshots taken with the same distance.

Yeah, just because you don't get flashed doesn't mean they're doing what they should! How about getting in someone else's car ~25' away facing yours w/your lights on & see if it blinds you? What about the projected distance of the LED's? Is it ~50' or is it ~150'+?

Nonone has seemed to mind. And again in did stand in front of them from varying distances and and no abnormal issues.

I'll see if I can snap a pic of what mine look like with the LED's facing the sides tonight or in the morning. The throw is really pretty far; I see road signs illuminating from a much greater distance than previously, and they do seem to light up the road better. That said, when I get behind a car at a stop light their entire cabin is lit up very well and I've seen several people readjust their mirror while I'm behind them.

I've also noticed that yellow road signs are now closer to white...all of sudden i was noticing signs I've gone by for a long time again.

I get that with plain ole halogens.

ok no one responded to my earlier query about single bulb vs. dual bulb LED's, but I did receive word from the seller on Ebay:

Hello friend,

We do not sell DUAL LED lights, only have SINGLE LED headlamps, I just check with our technician, if you use DUAL LED lights, it will be very heat. Maybe easy to burn out. Thanks

Does this make sense? Anyone having issues with heat or heard of such issues?

Thanks!

J

Both the 9006 (lows) and 9005 (highs) were dual LED. I bought the ones linked in this thread. Can provide exact linksnif you'd like. They were $60 a set so $120 for highs and lows. I can hear the fans going and they do get hot. But how hot is too hot? I dunno.

Thanks mdandashly! Just what I was looking for. If you can repost the links I'd appreciate it. I tried the ones on the thread but ended up with single LEDs, I'm sure it was my error. The single LEDs may not be of consequence but the same OCD that lead me here leads me to want sell mine and swap to dual LED bulbs : )

Thanks again,

J

On my "my ebay" it shows the seller has changed the pricing to $79.99, but I bought them at <$60 a set (see photo attached). Prob due to the influx of Mud orders. May be worth shooting them a message and seeing if they will price match.

Both of those that I received were 2 LEDs per unit. For what its worth, my order dates were 11/2 and 11/23

Mine definitely don't dump the light fast. Especially when the brights are on. They also don't have a "beam" like the old halogens did. It's a very even scattering of the light which I really like, especially for the trails I find myself on at night.

The road sign thing I found interesting. Or all reflective material for that matter. They really do make them bright and stand out. Great for seeing broke down cars and the occasional biker without a lamp on the side of the road.

Personally... Call me a jerk or whatever, but I could give a rats ass if other drives think my lights are too bright.... Though I haven't really had any complaints from anyone I know. In fact a few of them bought kits of their own because they were so impressed with them. One actually switched from an HID kit and couldn't be happier.

I have a 3" lift and I pointed down about 1/16" of bubble outside of the level area

Thanks again mdandashley. Looks like they're back down to $60.

I have another question.. after looking at the links above to the dual LEDs I noticed they don't have the half-sphere bulb covers that the singles I ended up with have (see: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321497943780?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT). I would think those might diffuse the light differently, as well as protect the LEDs, though I admittedly don't know jack about LEDs. I don't really know why anyone would use singles unless it was pointing backwards into a full reflector (kind of like a lighthouse), unless that bulb cover somehow compensates or amplifies. The light the singles put out was great, and the beam seemed to work in terms of pattern, but only filled half of the headlamp housing which def looked off to me. Anyone have any input?

I'm hoping through this thread to find the best all around (and affordable) upgrade to drab 80 headlights. Feeling very close

Thanks and sorry for tangent.

J

Glad the price is back down. I have not had the singles, so I cannot really comment. However, I don't see a need to protect the bulb. Theoretically, once it goes into the headlight it won't be susceptible to any flying debris (unless said debris actually shattered the headlight cover as well).

Overall, I am happy with the highs and lows for the price. However, the highs are not much brighter than the lows. Either way, I recommend em for the price and quality so far.

I need to adjust down slightly based on bubble in housing. Never adjusted after lift. The led does send some scatter and really makes road signs pop and reflectors on side of road. Haven't had any negative feedback, flashing or adjusting rear mirrors. I'm gonna install the other side and call it good. I even had a friend drive at me and I was in his corolla on a two lane country road and I wasn't pissed off at him:). Seems all right cheap mod to help with anemic oem light. Easy to reverse if need be.

So, I bought three kits. One is the VLED, which was the only kit I could find with an option to choose a warmer tint than 6500K. Going to take a while to get here though, as it was a pre-order.

These are the other two kits I got:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/171454710056 (has external driver, kit has arrived already)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/271564606624 (slightly curious to whether this is the same as the above, but it should have an internal driver).

....snipped some
Ok, so today I got the second kit (from the links above) and guess what - they are identical. Because of the size of the external driver enclosure, I think a LED bulb with integrated driver is out of the question. I bought the two because one didn't mention an external driver, nor was there a picture of one. This seller is going to receive a response to that regards, but that won't do much anyway I guess.

Going to test them today or tomorrow and post pics.

I really hope the expensive VLEDS are going to be better than this, or else they are going back :)

Sooo, a couple of days worth of testing, and these things are looking better and better.
I didn't compare them with the stock H4 halogen, but a friend is coming over this weekend so we'll be taking side by side comparison shots.
My initial impression is that the low beam throw is shorter for the LED bulbs, but the first few 10s of feet in front of the car is light up much better and clearer than before.
The LED doesn't have the beam pattern of the halogen, and I think that is why I measured so much more lux at the halogen sweetspot, than I did with the LED.

I have a really bad patch of road on my daily commute route where there's no streetlights. When the tarmac is wet and I have to use the low beam, normal halogen bulbs is hardly lighting up anything at all... I've felt like driving in the dark many times. The stronger the oncoming cars headlights have been, the less road I've seen ahead of me.
With the LEDs, I can actually see the closest 30-40 feet well, even with a slightly dirty windshield.

I took some shots to compare the low, high and high+xenons. Temperature is around freezing point, but there is just a little ice on the road. Road is not wet-black here even though that would be a better test.
Top is the low beam alone. Next is High beam, and the bottom pic is high beam with my NBB Alpha 225 75W Xenon on. Not sure if they had warmed up completely though :)

I had a friend drive the opposite direction, and he said the passenger side light was slightly blinding. I think it's a matter of adjusting the headlamp a little. So far, no angry drivers have flashed their lights or anything at me.

The road sign thing is really strange and great at the same time. I was far away from a sign, and the low beam didn't seem to reach to the signs, but they still light up :). I think it's the stray lumens :)
