Leak from Brake Master Cylinder

Sorry to hear it @White Stripe. I've got a '99 w/ near the same miles and hate to think about this happening.

Do a search, but this is typically an expensive fix - IIRC ~$2,200 to buy and install a replacement.

It's probably much less common than the infamous 2000 tranny, but a number of threads on here indicate that when the MC goes it's an expensive fix.

Here's a recent example: Brake Booster Failure

Usually they just stop working. I think the most common failure involves the electric motor that drives the booster pump.

If your engine compartment is soaked with brake fluid, you might have a different problem: check all the places where the brake lines and the reservoir connect to the cylinder and try to see exactly where the fluid is coming from. Is it actually leaking from the master cylinder itself , or one of the nearby connectors?

I have a 99 100series with 150k. The master cylinder is leaking terribly from the brake master cylinder. The inner fender is soaked as well as the frame rail with brake fluid. This look expensive. Anyone else had this issue?
I have a 2006 GXL diesel with 108000km and is leaking from the 2 bosses on the bottom of the master cylinder. This should never leak here. No parts available. I rang Toyota and they told me to go to the dealer and have a report done and sent to toyota. I did this and was told out of warranty. I appealed at the suggestion of Toyota, again no warranty. I have now lodged with NCAT. First hearing this soon.

This is a manufacturing fault and the parts are not available. There is a sealing ball with the master cylinder body swaged over it to seal. A new master cylinder is about $3000.00!!

Keep you posted.
