Hey LC friends,
Need to apologize for all that got waitlisted! I won’t be able to attend after all, bc of work :/ I had been waitlisted too but was able to register a few weeks ago. But only to find out now that I can’t attend LCDC9.

I feel really bad bc I know this year the allowed participation went down to 40 vehicles, and many were on a waitlist. I have taken a spot from someone who could have gone. It’s prob too late for anyone to take my spot and it seems waitlist is closed.

Sorry I couldn’t notify anyone interested and the organizers earlier about this.

Have fun everyone!
Vicky

I thought I saw a post on where to download the GPS track data for the LCDC runs but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone point me on where to get these?

Doesn’t funtreks.com have the gpx files as well?
Ahh, duh! I love the hard copy book and forgot you can download gps files from their website.

Stupid Gaia question: what do the dashed lined trails mean compared to the solid green trail lines?

I don't think that specific Gaia map knows what to make of that route. It shows up as an alternate way to Miller Rock instead of heading to the SW immediately from the intersection. The FunTreks route mentions this easier route. Just not sure what to make of it, TBH.

Here's Onx:

info seems to show it is a full width trail. We will all find out soon enough!

I’m local to Fort Collins, so let me know if anyone has any questions or would like me to scope something out in the run up to the event.

As for places to stay, most of the earlier mentions in the thread are good. The Elizabeth is probably the most high-end hotel here - right in the heart of Old Town with lots of restaurants and shops around. The parking garage for guests has a pretty aggressive height limit IIRC, something like 7’8” - I can go check it out if anyone is worried. I typically avoid the garages in Old Town with my rig because of the limits. A RTT or equipment up top probably keeps you out of most garages.

Breweries in Fort Collins are great and would be a cool hangout afterward. I have a friend at New Belgium and could look into event logistics if there is interest (it’s also fine to hang out there and other breweries informally).

Anyway, feel free to hit me up with questions about the area or if you want help from a local figuring something out.
see you all in 2 months!

P.s. this is about an hour from me and I know quite a few disperses spots from golden to Ned and Estes and beyond.

So if anyone needs direction hit me up.

Excited to see some faces, also pre and post runs sound perfect….
@bsho, @Killacaviar, I still haven’t figured out where my kids and I are staying. I only know it will involve my roof top tent attached to my trailer. I have a privacy tent and portable toilet if we need to use it.

Any thoughts preferably as close to LaVern M. Johnson Park as possible?

I think Peaceful Valley / Camp Dick have some first-come first-serve sites if there's nothing available to reserve? There are also a lot of dispersed sites along Pingree Park Rd (not close to the meetup spots in Lyons at all but a bit more centrally located) but I'm not sure to what degree that area was affected by the fires.

I’m not familiar with the area so can’t help with that specific location but search for a MVUM (motor vehicle use maps) of the area. They’ll break down where you can dispersed camp down to which side of the road. There is even an app called Avenza, that lets you load the pdf maps and it overlays your position.

Also freecampsites.net is another great resource. Although it shouldn’t matter when we’re all camping, they usually have the cellular strength for different carriers for the camp sites. Could be helpful for the kids.

Camping around Horsetooth reservoir might be nice. I’m not sure how much availability they would have at this point, but you can try: Horsetooth Reservoir, CO - https://www.larimercamping.com/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=LARC&parkId=710105

Also, every time I pass this place I think it would be a convenient place to stay when doing activities in the Poudre canyon, but I think you’ll hit availability issues at this point too: Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests Pawnee National Grassland - Ansel Watrous Campground - https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/arp/recreation/recarea/?recid=36605&actid=29

Another place further up the canyon that might have better availability: Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests Pawnee National Grassland - Narrows Campground: Upper and Lower - https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/arp/recarea/?recid=36731

hey all, unfortunately I’ll be sitting this year out. I can run trails on Friday and Sat but not sure if that’s allowed/warranted. I have a couple clients that are making Wed and Thursday more difficult than expected.

For everyone looking for camp spots, they are tons of options off of 72 and that’s a pretty well positioned access point to all the trails. It’s not super close to Lyons or FC but it’s perfect for any of the trails. Any camp spots close to Estes or RMNP are going to be slim pickings.

Camp Dick always has spots available and it’s a weeknight start so you shouldn’t have problems finding something (weekend is a different story). Tons of spots up Coney Flats from the Beaver Res. Side. North of Ward and near Miller rock/Iron Clads.

Kelly flats has a campground but that’s a bit of a hike.

Allen’s park, Olive Ridge, Tom Bennett are great campgrounds and also every single trail/offshoot in the area has dispersed spots. Red feather lake is a touch north of FC and it’s awesome up there.

Use the COTreks App. For Colorado it’s a better resource than Gaia in my opinion.

And also know it’s an extended mud season, it’s been really really abnormally wet…. The flies and bugs are crazy at the moment. The closer to the foothills you are the more manageable the bugs are and anything over 10k ft.

Happy to provide my cell to anyone that needs a 20 minutes phone call talking through options. Just DM me.

What's the plan for comms on the trails? I'm on ham radio and will have an extra Baofeng walkie talkie with me.
There are 2m frequencies and FRS/GMRS channels assigned to each trail group. Those can be found in the trail details on Sched. It’s up to the leader/group on whether to use ham, FRS/GMRS, both, or something else on the trail.

Paging Saturday Miller Rock Group:

I’m planning on leading the trail but will be in my stock Tacoma and won’t really know if I’ll be able to lead the trail until after I try a prerun Wednesday. If it’s too much for the Taco, we will work to find a new leader. If any of you are willing/interested in being a backup trail leader let me know. In the event the Taco is a no go, I’d still like to ride along if someone has an open seat.

Please DM me so I have all your Mud handles as I don’t have all of them from Sched. If you’d like, also give me your cell numbers so I can txt you any last minute changes or other info if needed.

@indycole It looks like I don’t have to get back to Scottsdale until the 17th so I’m free to happily extend my trip with @linuxgod to include LCDC if you are in need of any trail leaders/tail gunners/hype man/documentarian or official photo shared drive maintainer.

Would anyone at LCDC be interested in one Nitto Ridge Grappler 285/70/17? I had it installed while at LCDC last year, so it’s still very fresh. I’m getting 285/75’s installed at the moment and just want to pass on some good karma
