I’m planning to get my breakage out of the way in Utah this year. I think if you avoid the T33 crash site portion of the Ironclads trail you’ll go home unscathedWe'll see. 2 reds oughta be good. A light day is always nice, plus last years damage took me out for too long. I'd rather break closer to home this time.
Don't let your truck smell fear!
I do understand: I live in CO; NJ/PA/MD is a wee bit further away!

Which ball joints you going w this time ?If I break my shocks it's just an excuse to finally buy Kings
Pre-trip failure. I am swapping upper ball joints this week. Steering is a bit loose on the highway (wander-y, as my son put it) and the shop around the corner from me took a look when changing the oil yesterday and said it was the SPC upper BJs. I'll double check tie rods and other suspension components when I swap them but they didn't find any play anywhere else, so that's a good sign I suppose. Disappointed the SPC joints only went 70k miles (and really they probably went more like 50k or so as I've been noticing less precise highway steering feel for a little while now)
SPC. Is there another bolt-in option?Which ball joints you going w this time ?
Mine are gone as well after 65k. Supposedly there is a new UCA from SPV with new bushings and style of ball joint, but double the price versus replacing the ball joint.SPC. Is there another bolt-in option?
$160 for a pair of balljoints and $100 for an alignment is preferable to $650 for a new set of arms plus the hassle to do the full swap. If I had to replace my UCA I'd look at a different option in the future given how the Toyota joints are far more durable.Mine are gone as well after 65k. We’ve come to learn that looking at those rear shocks the wrong way would make them break. Icon has been helpful each time though. They ended up sending me a full replacement set for the rear after the last failure, we’ll see if they’re better. If I break my shocks it's just an excuse to finally buy Kings

Mine have likely been getting sloppy for a while. They have 70k in them but I bet 20-30k ago I should’ve swapped them. I only noticed recently but thinking back to how the truck handled at 65k it’s way different, but like boiling a frog you don’t notice when it happens slowly. I’d chalked up the wandering to other factors, but it makes sense to me now. Swapping them tomorrow, so we’ll see how much things improve, but I’m expecting a lot. We’ve come to learn that looking at those rear shocks the wrong way would make them break. Funny, I’m in the middle of replacing my SPC upper ball joints as well. I’ve only got 33k mi on them but in their defense, pretty sure I never greased them after the initial install.
I'm leading the Storm Mountain run on Saturday. Unfortunately, my 200 isn't going to be able to make the trip due a little damage sustained on my last adventure that I haven't been able to fix yet. So, I'll be running trails in my stock Tacoma. I've not run Storm Mountain before but from the Funtreks book it looks to be mostly easy peasy except for maybe the beginning of the climb to Storm Mountain itself. I'd appreciate any local intel on this trial on how chewed up this part really is and the likely hood of naked rocker panel damage is. I think this is the part right at waypoint 2 going to 3. Since I'm on Saturday, I'll have good info from the other runs Thursday and Friday if I need to bail out and find a different trail leader or just park the Taco at the trail head and just not run that part.
Also, I was planning on doing (not leading) Kelly Flats on Thursday and Ironclads on Friday. I have run those before in the 200 and I'm not too excited about doing them in my unprotected Taco so, I may be looking for to just ride along with someone willing that has an open seat. Or. I may bail from those trials and try to get in on others less likely to damage the Taco.
