Made it past the road construction on 50!! Camping in Montrose for the night and then on to Ouray tomorrow. Yes, I think that is a Target across the river…

We made it to SLC and camping at the Grand America Hotel for a couple of days 😂

I’d post pics, but man, the smoke has been hell all the way from Donner Pass to Salt Lake. Hoping for clearer skies in Ouray.

Lots of smoke in UT, WY, CO from the extensive ID fires.

You can turn on/off a fire layer and a smoke layer. Ouray isn’t showing too bad right now, SLC is.

Enjoying trails in Moab until Weds when we head out to Ouray.

By the way, had new springs I got from @RobW0 and OME 10mm spacers installed at Metric Offroad in Grand Junction, CO. The truck behavior definitely improved. I need yet to see how it handles weight, but so far so good. Huge thanks to Rob, really love this community!

Taken today at Hurrah pass.

Made it to Ouray today! Excited to meet some of you glorious bastards.
Several restaurants were simply closed due to staff shortages. However, best latte/cappuccino is at Mojo’s Coffee (a real “specialty” coffee shop not trying to overdo it with food). We had brunch at the Outlaw, and it was really good (but pricey 😬).

Does anyone have an extra radio I can borrow or buy?

Here she is after rolling over 1k miles with over 5,000lbs on the rear axle:

Just pulled into council bluffs. Passed someone today in Illinois, on my way out of Milwaukee. Headed for Colorado Springs in the AM. Gonna drop all the way down, 160 toDurango, up to ouray Tue morning.
Got to Durango tonight via 160. Beautiful from South Fork down into Durango.

Stopped at the Great Sand Dunes. Pretty cool but we didn’t have much time as our unplanned overnight in Hutchinson KS set is back.

I didn’t think of this until I was at the dunes but I wish I had taken Mendano Pass to the dunes from Walsenburg. would add a few hours though.

Left our place in Indiana at 6:15am Saturday morning, and made it to La Junta, CO by late Saturday night. Got a good night's rest after that monster drive (about 1100 miles) and spent the day today at Great Sand Dunes NP and making our way across the southern part of the state. In Durango tonight and then plan on heading up to Silverton/Ouray/Telluride area in the morning to have some fun in cooler weather. We will keep an eye out for others on the trail!

Haha, one of us is following the other. We also contemplated doing Medano, but I've done it several times before, so skipped it this time. If you ever are camping by GSDNP, def go up Medano, there are some nice sites, especially up at the top. There has always been empty spots when I've passed over.

This worked out for us! We took a chance and headed up the pass hoping that one of the 21 un-reservable sites would be open and we got lucky. Had to go up 4.2 miles to get to the first site, and we found one at around 5.

I’ve got a couple of extra FRS handhelds and you are welcome to borrow one. We’ll be in town Tuesday afternoon.

Thanks! I was a late add on and all I have are Motorola 2-way radios that my boy and I use to tell jokes to each other. Do I need to take any tests/certs or just push and play after it’s programmed?

No worries. FRS is likely what you have already with the motorolas where they have a couple dozen channels preprogrammed. If the ones you have have good range, that is all You should need. If not, you can definitely borrow one of mine which have pretty decent range.

Geeez, my bad 😬. looks like my little walkies are indeed frs.

Another stupid question. Should I stay away from Imogene/Black bear without sliders? Or is this one of the times where big tires and an on-demand 2” AHC lift will save me?

Question about Imogene Pass trail. I signed us up for Friday and I am wondering if I am too ambitious? Going easy on the two other days, Corkscrew Gulch and Alpine Loop. How hard it really is?

We are going in non-lifted 200 with 33" KO2s, sliders and skids. My preference would be to preserve the tupperware (so far been successful in that regard in Moab, the hardest trails so far been Hurrah Pass & Chicken Corners).

EDIT: Ha, radman posted same question basically while I was typing mine... :)

@unclemat and @radman....for what it's worth, my first time wheeling out here in the mountains was when I had my 100 series LX470 with the Hundreds in the Hills group several years ago. It was basically stock at the time with 33 inch BFG Ko tires and running boards removed. I was able to run Imogene and Black Bear both without much issue. There are a few tougher spots towards the top of Imogene but I believe you can mostly bypass around them if need be. I didn't find imogene too difficult myself, but there are some narrow shelf roads on the Telluride side with few pull offs to let people pass. That's what made it sketchy the first time I did it....we were heading towards telluride later in the day with lots of groups of vehicles coming out of Telluride heading towards Ouray. Was tough getting around the groups as the few pull off areas there are tend to only fit 2 or 3 trucks. We made it fine, it just took a lot longer doing that section that time due to traffic than any time I've done it since. I've ran the trail 3x since and it was great each time, no issues at all. Imogene and Alpine loop are my fav trails here, for sure. Black Bear pass I also did on that same trip. 95% of the trail is easy to light moderate. The top section where you start down into Telluride through the 1st switchback is the 5% that makes that trail hard. And honestly, with a good spotter/helpful group, it really isn't that difficult. It is just a major major pucker factor your first time down. Ill admit, a little poo nearly came out on that first switchback, but I was glad I did it...its one of those memories I'll never forget.

So anyway, in my totally unofficial opinion, I think you guys would be fine. My only concern is radman, looks like you have the stock running boards on? There is definitely a decent possibility of those getting dinged up. Just remember, we are all out here to have fun. If you guys think a trail is going to be too difficult for your abilities, no one in this group is going to give you a hard time for doing something a little easier. Whatever you decide to do, enjoy your time out here; they are always some of my fondest memories.

Spent the night in Colorado Springs. had a nice dinner and some beer at Pikes Peak Brewing Co. Heading over to Ouray shortly. We are going to take the route thru Crested Butte and Kebler Pass. Not sure how much time this will add to the drive but hopefully will have some nice views and scenery.

Officially arrived last night… pouring rain but beautiful this morning…

For those wondering, I did imogene a couple weeks ago. It is getting significantly more chewed up than it has been in the past, I’m thinking because of the no-differential UTV traffic. A friend with a stock LX in high did fine with stock running boards, no contact anywhere. My cruiser with only about an inch lift in the rear dragged the rear bumper lightly a couple times. We did not attempt BBP.

Have fun people!

I'm bringing a couple extra Baoefeng UV-5's that I've got programed in with the FRS channels, and the 2m freq's the trail leaders will be using. I've set up the 2m HAM stuff to be receive only, to keep us within the spirit of the FCC requirements. I'll have them with me at the wed evening meet-up. Black 200 w/ Virginia plates, if anyone needs to borrow one for the week.
