Hey @dntlflosstycoon, did the promo codes go out yet? I did t see an email yet and want to make sure that I just didn’t miss it.
Should be going out tomorrow. Apologies for the delay, as I got utterly buried with work. Holler if you have any questions after tomorrow. The coming email message also has our customer support team information in case anyone gets stuck onboarding.

Solo westbound to Ouray. Took this picture while driving through Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park. See y’all Wed.

Chris,
Are these viable options pulling a travel trailer with decent clearance? I’m considering my options ambit we are dragging the camper along. Thanks
So let me caveat, that I have not towed over either.

I have seen trailers on both.
  • Kebler is about half dirt road, and a bit tight in a couple places. I'm sure you could do it, going slow. It does take about an hour (without a trailer) leaving Crested butte to the main road on the other side. We do occasionally see 18 wheelers on there, but its a bit sketch
  • Black Canyon of the Gunnison is a paved road the whole way. It is very curvy, but its still just a regular road. See tons of trailers on it.

Perhaps if anyone else has experience towing there could weigh in.

-Chris

If you’re coming I-70 from Kansas, fill every container and plastic bag ya got with gas before crossing the border (Goodland, KS). It’s a 50ish cent price increase once you cross into Colorado.

Kebler shouldn't be a problem, we tow our 19 foot camper over it with no issues. Some washboard but plenty wide and not particularly steep.

I also noticed a mention of Independence Pass (Hwy 82 between Leadville and Aspen) a few posts back...for those of you towing trailers, this is not a good route for a variety of reasons. That pass has a 35-foot total length limit, i.e., total length of trailer and tow vehicle cannot exceed 35 feet. They are actually enforcing this at checkpoints with the I-70 closure in place, and the fine for violating the length limit is around $1,200. During fire closures on I-70 last year a handful of campers and semis got stuck and shut down the pass on several occasions. Don't be that guy. The road has numerous tight switchbacks and a couple of narrow single-lane sections that can be somewhat puckering even without towing anything.

Yeah, I haven’t actually created a config for LCDC yet. Was going to compare against what I programmed on the fly last year. Mostly, I think I just put it in Frequency mode and manually selected the frequency each day. I was planning on programming the local repeaters though so it’s not a big deal to add the trail frequencies as well. I’ll do that this weekend. Maybe even tonight.
Any progress on a config?

I had some time today, and scraped the data off sched. Going to fire up Chrip in a bit and play around. It's been a few years since I've messed around with it. For those interested in the data:

Is Clear Lake closed through September 15?

News reports from the end of May suggest the first several miles of Clear Lake Road are closed, but I expect the organizers have been following this better than I have.

We've been monitoring the situation and have been in touch with USFS. There's a small chance that it may open up early (even smaller given the current weather). It's a bummer because it's a super-scenic trail and the lake at the end offers quite the payoff.

Fortunately, we'll have several options on the menu for a replacement trail. We'll share more on Wednesday.

Rolling from the NOLA now. See y'all next week.

I took a stab at chirp and my UV82. Attached is a CSV export which seems to import fine. I imported the FRS and GMRS on the first 52 channels. NOAA weather is on channels 53-62, 63 and 64 are call frequencies, and then a added all 12 of the channels for next week at the end (for mine), so 116-127.

Not sure if I did this correctly, but feel free to let me know if not as it is good learning opportunity.

That’s basically what I was going to do, so I’ll just take yours. Thank you!

For those coming into Ouray this weekend from the east, it looks like 50 will be open…weekend only.

We almost made it out of town by noon, and then Mr. Toyota decided to give me an error.

I tried to clear it, and we pressed on.
After far too many fuel stops we made it to Joplin, Mo for the night.

Tomorrow we will get some miles in the rear view mirror!
Travel safe everyone!

I get that error all the time in a heavy rain or snow storm or in a dusty trail. I just get a PCS error as the radar can't see. I just ignore it and it comes back in better conditions, though Its not something I would stop ton fix

I usually get that error when snow or ice builds up on the front of the car. It goes away when the radar is clear again.

With Highway 50 closed due to construction and I-70 currently closed due to mud slides (hopefully open soon) has anyone gone from Buena vista to Carbondale and then south to Delta shown below? Seems like the next best path. That or south to Durango and up

I wish it was that easy! I probably need to have something aligned or calibrated! I’ve only got 6000 miles on the lift and about 1500 miles pulling the trailer. I’m just going to learn to ignore it and enjoy the trip. The dealer can deal with it in a couple weeks if someone at LCDC doesn’t have the magic formula.

Note: a limited amount of vehicles are allowed through the US 50 closure area between a 12:30-1:30PM opening.

us50info.com

Weekday closures are in effect on the US 50 project between MP 123 – MP 127 through Little Blue Creek Canyon. Single-lane alternating traffic openings are scheduled at 6:30-8:30 AM, 12:30-1:30 PM and 5:30-7:30 PM. Motorists should prepare for detours and traffic delays on weekdays.

INCREASED TRAFFIC TRAVELING ON US 50
PLAN TO ARRIVE FOR THE OPENINGS EARLY AS A LIMITED AMOUNT OF VEHICLES ALLOWED THROUGH THE PROJECT AREA. QUEUEING EARLY IS CRITICAL TO ENSURING PASSAGE, PARTICULARLY DURING THE 12:30-1:30 PM OPENING.
