Hey, guys. I'm hoping that someone could help me with this. Recently bought a 2025 Land Cruiser. It runs great, but there's one thing that has me concerned.

Until the car is warmed up, I hear a rattling sound coming from the passenger side when I apply the brakes. Here's a video demonstrating what I'm talking about:

Anyone know what could be causing this?

Exact same noise here with my 2025. Just happened at 250 miles in stop/go when the engine was cold. Only when stopped with brakes applied. Once I crawl forward it goes away. It's very loud! Keep us updated. I'll see how annoying it gets to see if I'll bring it in before the 5k service or just wait until then.

Hey, guys. Quick update from my service visit. According to them, the issue had to do with a loose heat shield, which they tightened up. Problem is that the next day I started my LC, the noise started once I shifted into drive and applied the brakes. It went away once I got going. I'm wondering, based on your experience noname, if it's normal, but I don't know.

For reference, I have 206 miles on the odometer as of now. I reached out to Toyota USA to see what they can do. I'll update again once I do (or don't) figure it out.

Not normal. I have put on just shy of 5k since November on my LC and I’ve never heard that sound. We actually put on a few hundred miles today headed out to our hiking destination.

I doubt it's normal. I have been hearing it off and on now and it doesn't seem to be only when the engine is cold. It's almost like it's unbalanced and once it hits a certain idle RPM it's enough to cause some cabin vibration. Any RPM higher or lower than that one spot it's nice and smooth, it just occasionally hits the 'rough' spot and starts shaking. Because of the engine stop/start feature it's pretty difficult for me to replicate because 90% of the time the engine turns off at a start.

You could put it in tow haul mode so the engine stays on at idle to help diagnose it.
That sounds like a good idea. Yesterday, I dropped my LC off again at the dealership to try figuring it out. After a day with it, they haven't been able to figure it out. I'll ask the tech to try putting it in tow/haul mode.

Quick update. In my LC's engine bay, there's a cooler line behind the hybrid battery that sat too closely to the firewall. The techs adjusted it, and the sound is gone. I'll keep testing, but here's a photo of what I'm talking about. I'd check that area and see if that's what's causing your rattle.

That is the sound of its soul.

Glad to hear they found a fix - hopefully! I'll take a look there this weekend to see if I can make some adjustments.

I'm 90% sure that's the correct fix for me as well. I couldn't replicate the rattle in my garage, but I do see where the metal hose/adapter piece is contacting the firewall and made slight wear in the paint. I didn't have any tools that fit back there to adjust the hose positions. I used some zip ties for now and I haven't heard the noise after a short drive. I scheduled an appointment for Thursday to have them try to adjust it. I'll report back, but so far it's looking like the same fix as yours.

Cool. Glad to know it worked for you. Mine's been silent since the fix. My dealer submitted the issue as a potential TSB.

Brief update: The dealer adjusted the hoses/brackets and it's still quiet. No more zip ties. Not sure exactly how they adjusted it but there's about 1" more clearance to the firewall now before anything hits. That should fix it.

Can you please tell me what dealer you took your car to get repaired and maybe the service advisor’s name. I’ve taken mine in to a couple of dealers and they aren’t able to Replicate and tell me it’s normal. I also showed them this forum but they said they don’t do any repairs that are suggested by forums.

Dealing with the same issue. Local dealership is trying but hasn’t been able to “replicate” on my vehicle.

Is there something they wrote down or could be posted that I could show them?

250 miles, started at about 150. That’s because I drove it home from the dealership about 110 miles away from the house.

Thanks.

I have similar issue. Been to the dealer 3 times now. They adjusted thr bracket that holds the cooling line, the also put spacers on that bracket (passenger side). The issue seems to be mitigated but i still hesr it every once in a while, more so i put it on tow haul mode as someone suggestd here. I dont think the dealer really found an issue but they told me they were doimg trial amd error in adjusting those lines. I hope toyota comes up with an official diagnosis and a definite solution

Where did you pit the zip ties? Can you send a pic? Did the dealer say anything?
