What’s going MUD, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jerry. I’m new to the whole offroading/overlanding genera of motorsports, but I’ve been around modding/driving sports cars since the early 2000s. I’ve basically had every sports car produced since then but since I’m older now, I would like to do more outdoor type things with my 3 year old son, i figured, why not try offroading/overlanding so me and my family can go camping or fishing. I’ve always wanted something the was 4WD, but I always felt like 4runner/FJ Cruisers/LC200/LC100 were all priced out of my range or the mileage was too high. I’ve joined many forums and scoured FB marketplace just to seek some interest. But one day I came across an ad for an LC200 that seem to fit my need.

As you guys may not be aware, I am the new caretaker of Brian Jowett’s LC200. Brian is definitely a great person to deal with. Very honest and forthcoming with everything that was wrong with her. I felt comfortable taking on this project knowing that Brian would be a great resource. He’s answered all my questions and pointed me in the right direction when asked. Couldn’t have met a better person/seller. She’s definitely not a looker, but she drives very well. Hopefully I can do this rig some justice and bring her back to her former glory. She definitely needed some attention, but I most definitely am willing to put in the time to learn about the LC200 platform.

Therefore this iThank you for having me, lookin forward to joining the mud forums. I apologize in advance for my stupid questions.

That's a nice starting point for an offroad rig.

Pointers on photos. Most people upload their pictures directly to MUD. It is possible to reference your imgur photos, but you need to use the "Insert Media" button (the icon that looks like two picutres stacked). Then put your url (without the https:// part) into the box when prompted.

Hahaha I think I’m just old or the forums I still belong to doesn’t have that option hahah. For me it was always Photobucket hosting the images and I type in the html links. This definitely is a game changer, it’s great that I can just insert from my phone library. Thanks for the pointers.

No worries. Also, getting a silver/gold star gets you a little more functionality. Like the ability to edit/delete posts and to posts more pictures per posts. Also helps pay for hosting all your pictures.

I will be looking into that. Thanks

VALLEY PLATE
If you ever wondered what the nastiness looked like to a leaking valley plate. here some examples of mine. When doing this, please be careful with the 4-knock sensors. They are very expensive and DO NOT LIKE aftermarket.

After everything was done, it was all sealed up nicely with this.

STOPTECH Front/Rear brake rotor replacement. If you are wondering why i installed slotted rotors on the non racing or sports car, its simply because they were free. Brian was nice enough to include this with purchase, so how can i refuse or deny such a nice gesture. He also included a set of Centric fleet front brake pads, so I matched it with a set of rear brake pads. The brakes now feel great especially since i changed a set of sticky rear calipers. Rockauto reman rear calipers were used because they also came with a set of caliper brackets. NEW OEM caliper bracket is $$$ > NEW OEM Calipers, so for not I just opted for after market.

ALIGNMENT

I've searched and messaged multiple members on what's the best alignment for LC200's lifted with tundra front suspension. Everyone agreed to MAX out the caster. I do not have adjustable UCAs yet, but this the best I can do at this point. Also he said my sway bar end links looked bent, which is probably true. I know people were having problems snapping these. Did anyone come up with a solution yet? I've attached a copy of my alignment settings, what do you guys think.

Quite the project! One thing to note is if the A/C needs recharge and lack of refrigerant was not from other work, you’ll need to find and fix the leak. I’m sure you know that, but I didn’t see it on your list.

Pretty sure there’s a leak somewhere. But I’m going to do one thing at a time.

@aLwAyS4SaLe should fit in quite well around here. He’s new to the Land Cruiser, but certainly gets it… his desire for OEM parts was my first clue that it’s gone to good hands.

He has one of the prototype caps… probably should swap it out for him.

Thanks Bryan. Definitely has a lot of nice things on this car. When you saw the prototype caps. You mean the oil cap the filler cap? My friends were commenting on how nice it was.

E&E Offroad Skid plates ordered. Couldn't pass up the deal/promotion he was running. I was really debating on just something simple like ARB skid plates, but for the added convenience for oil changes with Bryan's and total protection for the underbody. There really was no comparison. From a price point, its cheaper than the other options and plus it fits the tundra suspension conversion without modifications. That's why i chose this over the budbuilts.

Yeah, at that price, it's getting into no brainer territory if you want skids.

Sure you found it, but there's a pretty detailed thread..

Yea turbo8 recommended his skids to me when I asked on the skid compatibility for people with tundra front suspension. I don’t think I need skids, but I also didn’t feel like looking for oem under carriage parts since my car didn’t come with anything. I figured this would be a good start.

Problem: “external system not connected”, no nav, no audio, but beeping and climate control screens still functioning

IMG_1284.jpeg

The radio and nav was functioning up until I did all the maintenance. Throttle body was cleaned and battery was taken off for the recalibration. Other than that the car runs and drives but just not nav or radio.

Interventions:
Attempt 1: Unplugged battery cleaned passenger and driver side multiplug connectors with deoxit5, gentle scrub, waited 5 hours and plugged back, nothing
also unplugged and plugged back the amp, all connections secure.

Attempt 2: changed out fuses, 2 in the engine bay 30/10 amp fuses, and 2 in the driver side kick panel 7.5/10 acc/panel

Attemp 3: changed fuse in passenger kick panel, multi display fuse 10amp

Ran the diagnostic menu:

This is where I’m at. Anyone has recommendations? If the nav truly took a dump I don’t mind, my question would be, if I installed a grom or px6 unit, would it still work?

Probably not, since the GROM still has to use an audio input, which I'm sure is part of the Audio module.
