Why in the world did they put it toward the driver when the steering wheel has it already? GX has it right in the middle...

Other markets are going to get it down on the lower right which while not ideal is better...
Best pic I could find... Also some had asked what that blank is and its for the diesel to idle up.

Assuming the panels are the same you probably could locate the parts and make the swap. It is preproduction so that might not be the final position.

I was thinking if they hear enough complaints then they might make a change.

My 200 has both a volume knob and the steering wheel controls. Honestly, I use the knob far more often than the steering wheel controls because it is far easier to use. I don’t have to punch the button multiple times, then punch the other button because I went too far. I just adjust with the knob by twisting it. I think it is a mistake to assume that the steering wheel controls are equivalent to the knob.

So I very much prefer the volume knob to be close to the driver. I think it looks a bit out of place there, but from an ergonomic perspective I think it will work well. These were preproduction vehicles, it wouldn’t surprise me if that knob location changes when we see the production vehicles.

On our Mazda the volume knob is down on the center console alongside the screen controls. I much prefer this. I generally cruise with my left hand on the steering wheel and my right arm resting on the center console. Even if you don't, it's a very natural feeling to drop your hand to the center console; you're not leaning forward to reach the knob, and you can keep your eyes on the road the whole time. Hopefully they do something different at production.

Yeah I like the knob on the euro models because if this ^^^ The knob is very close to where you would rest your hand on the gear shifter. The one shown in the USA is a very odd place to put it.

The issue is that on the higher trim (pictured) it looks like an afterthought. I got to believe they're going to do something else.

Honestly this makes the "1958" with it's smaller screen and co-located volume knob look better.

I'd still go for the bigger screen. I agree with you that it looks like an afterthought. Maybe they will move it before production.

I'm just thanking the sweet sweet land cruiser gods this thing is covered in physical buttons. I'm very tech progressive and am pumped about it being a hybrid (although I wish it were a plug in as well, with power bank/house gen capabilities), but feared that it having a screen, they'd move those controls to that. Physical buttons are just plain safer for driving. You can't muscle memorize where something is on a 13 inch screen.
