Nup, it's a good 15mm gap. Probably hard to tell with the perspective of the photo but the two wont go together.

hindsight, When I'm ready, You just made my door assembly a whole lot easier. I usually take pics before I dissassemble something. Great job and great looking doors. Subscribed.

Nice write up Doc. I am replacing the window regulators, felt strips and upper window channels in my truck.

I bought the CCOT uppers and installed them. On the passenger side door I cut them in half for easier installation. That didn't work well for me. The drivers side door I didn't cut them and started at a corner bottom and worked my way around the door using a small screw driver. When I attempt to roll up the window the upper channel weatherstripping is getting pinched. The way the channel strip is designed it doesn't feel like it wants to go in all the way.

I'll get some photos posted in a couple days.

I hope your well.

On my doors, when I lock them and close the door, it unlocks. I cannot lock the doors with the key, but if they are locked from the inside I can unlock them with the key. Does this make sense to anyone? Do I have the Cam in incorrectly, or is this likely a Key issue?

FJsnoozer ... Hold up the door handle from the outside when shutting and it will stay locked. From memory, all cars in the '80's did this. I think it was some DOT thing..

I think I just dated myself :frown:

FYI: There's another good thread on the subject, 'Tackling the doors' if anyone needs more info/perspective.

correct, should be 75+(latter style) doors what do that, the FJ60 also did thru 1987, but 88-90 Fj62's do not...

Preparing the next guide although a couple of steps will pass before it goes in

Good time for lube

For what it's worth, the window felts for a 1979 FJ40 are the same inside and outside. I found out today, after buying these parts over a year ago, that "inside" felts are for a one piece door cruiser that has vent windows. So the two I have take care of the passenger door that I'm working on. I have no idea how Toyota window channels differ or fit, but the aftermarket leaves a lot to be desired. Then again, after nearly six years of cruiser ownership ('70 and '79) the whole damn vehicle is lacking. You pretty much have an International Harvester pick up truck where you need to the know the date and shift it was built on to find parts, and that won't always work either.

I recently installed my windows as well and have a few things to add.

1. I was not able to slide my window through the lower window felts so I had to remove one side, slip the window in, drop the window below the bottom pcs it sits on and then install my window.

2. When I first installed my OEM channel felts, I was confused as to why they were so short on each side and did not fill the channel top to bottom. I then realized after installing the OEM upper window channel, they made the upper channel longer so that it will snap into the lower channels inside the door. See pictures. I did not use sealant or lube on these, I just slid them in and they were a snug fit.

3. The OEM channel is not as easy as I thought it would be to install. You really have to pinch the channel together in order for it to pop into place. I almost gave up thinking maybe I had the wrong one. I installed this after the window was it, but not sure if it would have to be removed to take the window out.

4. Don't forget to slip the removable channel into the slot at the top of the door. Once the window is in, it can be hard to get to and you won't have any eyes on it.

in the very near future, i am going to replace all the channels/felts of both doors in my '76, I cannot take the rattling anymore (the temporary fix of inserting odor eaters between the doors and glass has worked but it's time to move on up). I've been reading thread after thread on this topic and i'm still not completely clear on whether or not the glass MUST be removed to do this. I plan on using all OEM parts

other threads are either rebuilding doors where everything is already removed or are not replacing all the channels/felts. i am not rebuilding my doors from hollow shells, the door handles/regulators are already in and work properly, the window glass is already in. this is simply a remove and replace job. my understanding is as follows, is this correct?:

1-remove door panel to be able to access the lower channel felts. (by 'lower channel felts', i mean the felts that are all the way in the lower part of the door and contact the glass on the left and right edges)
2-roll the window all the way up
3-remove the old 'lower channel felts' (OEM part #68143) and replace
4-roll the window all the way down
5-remove the inner and outer chrome/felt pieces (#68161 and #68170) that contact the large flat surface of the glass (long straight piece that turns up on the ends)
6-remove the upper chrome/felt channel (#68141) that goes up both sides and across top of window frame
7-replace the inner and outer pieces from step 5
8-replace the upper chrome/felt piece from step 6
9-reinstall door panel

Thank you in advance for your knowledge and experience.

I am pretty sure you can make this work with the windows in place however it is just a few steps extra to pull the windows out if you already have the door panels and vapor barrier off. The space is pretty tight with the glass installed and it will be hard to get the lower channel felt out.

Alright, I am sure that many of you can identify with this scenario...I took my doors apart more than a year ago, now I forgot exactly how they go back together. The manual is not much help either.

I put the following instructions together for the sake of saving your sanity when it comes down to remembering the sequence of assembly.

First of all....find a nice sturdy surface to hang the doors on. If they are on your truck, it will probably be all the easier.

The door latch is next, I remembered how hard the stainless bolts were to get out so I made sure to apply some anti-sieze to the threads.

Next in goes the cylinder door lock, I could not find the stock rubber gaskets so I applied a little clear silicone instead.

Should look like this installed

Next...in with the door handle

Inside view

Bolt it up like this...what the picture does not show is that the armature should be swung upwards and bolted to the door

Clean out the old window channel to install the new rubber guides

100_0192.jpg

I lubed the guide with Silicone seal to aid in lubricating the rubber guide.

Now in place

Thank you so much for this. Just finished putting two doors back together with this.

Anyone know if a thread like this exists for early 40 doors? I’ve searched but no luck so far. Any links would be appreciated, great thread!

Do you have that oem part number for those upper felt channel runs?
