Details! How did you form the corners and how does the sheet metal attach to the tubing?

Details! How did you form the corners and how does the sheet metal attach to the tubing?

Let's see, a combination of brute force, clamps, the bender pedestal, clamps, bottle jack, clamps, hammers and, did I mention clamps?

The pedestal of the bender worked best. I used the bender "template" to help keep the bend radius "similar" to that on the trailer frame. I also had to notch out the sheet metal so that it fell below the frame which helped it form the radius also. I'll just say that the second side didn't take 25% of the first side.

I'm using the rivets like we mentioned. I'll take some pics of inside the tub tomorrow after its painted and put back together...

WOW is all I can say.

Also just now noticed that you ended up going spring over?? What made you change your mind, smaller tire size?

Awesome Jerry. I kept waiting for your call this weekend, but I suppose you and the girls got it knocked out. I'll be around this week if you need a hand let me know. Looks great man, aren't you glad you did it the way you really wanted too?

Awesome work Jerry, hope the bottle jack tube deal we discussed Thursday night helped out. looks like a very nice fit. Look forward to seeing it when you return, drive safe.

The spring over is due to the smaller tire/wheel combo as well as a slight error in my original build up plans. I had done all the plans based on using a "drop" axle which I planned on turning over, giving the same effect as a portal axle. I was convinced to not go this route by some trailer "experts" and didn't re-calculate the measurement.

With the spring over, it brings the tongue height where it needs to be, so all is good and all it took was removing a few bolts and turning the axle over with a 180 so that the e-brakes are oriented correctly...

I probably should have called but figured you were up to your elbows in your weekend project. And, yes, I'm thankful for your feedback, it was the right thing to do...

Yes, the bottle jack idea was a good one. In reality, I'm far from getting on the road. I've got to get the sheet metal painted and I'm not 100% happy with the transition of the bottom of the tub and sides...

A couple of quick pics of the trailer now that is painted, skinned and nearing completion. I wasn't able to head to Moab/Ouray do to a "personal" reason. I'm sitting here a bit depressed, missing out on my trip west but, oh well, life happens and you move on...

On to the pics. I don't think there was ever any doubt what color it was going to be...

Rear doors in place, all the hardware is being re-worked so they are still fully functional...

Side shot, last few thing to button it up tomorrow and it should be 99% done...

Wicked cool Jerry, just sick man. I am so impressed and glad you slowed down and did it right the first time. Can't wait to see it in person!!!

Couple quick pics of today's work.

Got the gas shocks to help lift the lid, the doors mounted to the rear and almost finished with the water tank plumbing to the outside. Oh year, got the RTT mounted also, its getting close...

I see......drawer slides in your future. Did you wind up putting shocks on the trailer axle too?
Dude, that tent fits perfectly on there.

That's sick. When are they going into production?

Once I move all my tools into the basement, get a couple 240v outlets installed down there and figure out how much of my life I want to spend building stuff for other people...

You are correct. On the shock thing, I've received mixed reviews to their value. I had originally planned on putting some on but at this point, don't have them. I'll drive it around then consider adding them if necessary.

Yeah, the wife commented on the tent fitting so well also. I did have a method to my madness and it worked out that the FJ40 top fit perfectly into that madness...

Nice work Jerry, that is awesome:cheers:

As I was finishing things up, I just can't get past the rear doors. As much as I really want the ambi doors to work, they simply don't go with the finished product. I've got all this tubing with sheet metal behind it then these two square doors.

So, I've got to go to plan B. Just when I thought things were winding up, its back to the fabrication mode. I've still got to decide to go with swing out doors or the tried and true, simple route of a tailgate...
