Jerry, do yourself a favor and cover that Hog w/ some plastic or something! Would hate to see metal dust get on that thing and rust :(

 R

Awesome work and a super cool idea. Let me know if you need any help when you get back from San Antonio...I have not sh!t going on next week ;p.

So Jerry how much are you going to charge to build us all some??:grinpimp:

We can discuss that once I pull this off...

It does look abused there doesn't it...

I just might take you up on that offer...

Yeah keep the plans or any jigs. I think you are on the right track....Hate seeing good tops get cut up but they are everywhere and cheap. Might as well use them in something useful so they can live on.

Did you post up what you are using for axles, springs, wheels, tires?

I'm using stuff I ordered through ABC trailer parts: 62" hub face-face, 3500 lb axle, electric brake hubs, 3500 lb leaf springs, some 40 wagon wheels with the same tires I'm running on my FJC (SS SSR 35X10.5X16's).

If things go as planned, I'd like to make a mold of the final, sectioned top instead of finding originals and cutting them up. But, that is a way down the road as it sits right now...

Here's an idea....for your lid, why not hinge the top right down the cut line? You could access one half without lifting the whole thing. Actually, you could hinge it BOTH ways. You could make a second hinge assembly that will tilt at the front. Think dumptruck. They have a latch that will make the gate swing out from the top, or out from one side. Another truck that has that is the Honda Avalanche clone.

Oh, another thing. I hope you are just tacking those welds right now. I say that because you will want a welding jacket for burning in the whole circumference of the tube. You will be bright red otherwise! I had a nice burn scar on my forearm from touching a hot weld, and I have been sunburned many times even from just a short burst of weld. Damn irish skin.....

Good idea. However, for my application, with a RTT, might be tough to pull off. Without the RTT, I can see that as a very nice option...

Nope, too late for that. I'm starting to peel on one side (my "off-hand") and I was so smart that day, I was wearing a sleeve-less T-shirt. The noob effect is well in place and I paid my price for ignorance. Yup, the irish skin doesn't do well in those conditions...

that there is down right funny now.....

oh and its tuesday; got any new progress? :D Looks GREAT so far.

Here are some updated pics. Doesn't look like much has happened but its winding up. I had to burn some time chasing a way to close up the back (tease for pics of tomorrow's work).

Finally got the tongue fab'ed up, square and tacked into place...

Axle hung into place. I wound up having to re-locate the spring perches instead of "redneck'n" it to fit. They were only off by 3/4" on each side but it was worth moving them instead of just welding a plate on, then mounting the hangers onto the plate...

A bunch of work has been spent getting the top glassed up, sanded and painted, wet sanded, painted, wet sanded again, painted...you get the picture. Had to put it back onto the skeleton of the trailer just for show...

Side shot with the to be blasted/painted wheels. I ordered some 33 X 9.5 X 15's to go onto the old school FJ40 wagon wheels...

Thats all for now, got to get back to work if I'm going to finish it by next week...

Looking good jerry.

Are you retaining the spring under setup?

Saw this in person yesterday and it's quite impressive. Alot of thought has gone into the design of this trailer. I think it's going to be a great finished product. Looking good Jerry

Looking good jerry.

Thanks, its getting there...

Are you retaining the spring under setup?

Yes. If I sprung it over, it would be too high, at least by my measurement. I initially planned on using one of the "drop axles" but swapping the perches to the other side giving it kind of a "portal axle" set up. For whatever reason, I bowed to the "on-line" experts who suggested that it isn't a good idea.

Maybe on rev 2, I'll look into ways to increase ground clearance w/o raising the COG too much...
